General / Re: 2000AD Oct/Nov Art Comp: VOTING THREAD
18 November, 2009, 08:57:33 PM
That is a great idea!

An idea that's been mentioned (maybe by Van DOm, I can;t recall) on one of the short story threads is a comp that would get the artists and writers together, a one-page strip comp...anybody else up for that?

If Roger doesn't win the short story comp, no way am I going to meet him. He's menioned that he's going to murder someone if he loses, you know...I'm inclined to believe him. Maybe I could bring him a giant-sized Yorkie Bar as a peace offering.

We're (me and the missus) still plotting what we might do...we may drive up to visit friends in Inverberie (Aberdeenshire) and hitch a ride on the Trekk from there, or meet up with Roger in Milton Keyes...

Yeah it is beautifully drawn and very clear as far as the idea goes...the words would have to be very, very good to enhance what;s already here. Well done as usual, Grimm!

Fresno Bob, how much is a subscription in the States? Is it reasonable? I only ask because I'm due to move back to PA in a few years - and of course I won;t be able to give 2000AD up. Whatever the price, I suppose I'll pay it...

Film & TV / Re: Ultramarines movie warhammer 40k

Yeah, would love to see this done right.

The Warhammer world is so grim and bleak and violent, it would have to be rated R. Heck, I'd take an awesome ultra-bloody 360 game!

Hullo grimm - beautiful images...I've dropped you a PM!

Bolt and his Lordship are probably best to answer this question, but I'd assume mIke is right - don't accept a penny for the work.

It's similar to films - if it's a parody, you can go for it, but otherwise, no deal. I do know Lucas is pretty cool about people setting films, fanfiction and comics in the Star Wars galaxy...of course as long as they don't make money.

Prog / Re: Prog 1662 - The Smuggler

Aye, T/S keep doing what you do! I for one enjoy the madness and delirium present in every one of your posts.

As for the Prog, I agree with a few of the sentiments the it wasn't one of the best lately. Now...aren't we spoiled (spoilt for you blokes)? Has the quality been so good lately that when a Prog comes around that just a few years ago would have been excellent is simply a 'meh'? Yep. In light of that, I blame Tharg and his droids for the following comments:

Cover: Nothing wrong, no big deal, but not very memorable. Had to go take a peek at it just now to refresh my memory. Nice, but disposable.

Dredd: Good, and just good. Not mind-blowing like most of the Tour of Duty has been; the little scene involving Pink Eyes gang and Munn was compelling though.

Necrophim: Well...I was a big fan of the prologue. This started out okay. But now, now it's falling apart on me. The angels/demons using cell phones really bugs me for some reason. The art, which I once felt was fantastic, suddenly seems stiff and posed. Hopefully it rebounds.

Slaine: Speaking of stiff and posed art - this is it! The stiffest most posed-est art out there. Not a fan of this photo-realism or whatever it's called. What's worse, is that in my Prog Slog I am now reading the Demon Killer with amazing Glenn Fabry art - which puts this stuff to shame! As for the story...hey, well maybe...

Terror Tales: Not much special here. Okay.

Sin/Dex: Meh, as ever.

Horrible martial arts films are the biggest guilty pleasure I have.

I should be a pretentious film snob, not a man who sits around gleefully watching a movie that cost £50 to make with a script a monkey could have written.

I love bad martial arts films too, but I don't consider it a guilty pleasure!

Mrs. Locust booked at the Radcliffe, which is a short walk from the theater, castle, all of that. It's a bit spendy, but...well, romantic  :-[.

Film & TV / Re: Planet of the Apes - Channel4

Brilliant film - one of my favorite films of all time! I love all the Apes films (except the remake, I feel compelled to state) and at one point in my youth dreamed of writing/directing the final installment to the series.

General / Re: Celebrity Catfight: Mills v. Moorcock

The only experience I have with Michael Moorcock in comics was the 2-part Elric/Conancrossover early on in Marvel's Conan the Barbarian series. It was a mess.

I am not positive, but I believe the Elric comics were adapted by Roy Thomas.

Personally I prefer Moorcock's writings to Mill's comic, but I like both!
