Books & Comics / Re: Mark Millar's CLINT
05 July, 2011, 11:33:09 PM
Whenever theres a story in 2000AD I'm not enjoying, my criticism is invariably a variation on the "It doesnt work for a six page serial format, it feels like a longer comic chopped up"

Theres an art to writing for 6 page installments that I respect the hell out of but Clint is mainly longer comics chopped up

As Mr Lee would say... Nuff said

Think I might do the retro ones like I said - one prog per episode, then try and sort out "specials" on certain arcs. They are just slightly harder work. The bigger arcs by definition deserve to be handled a bit more respectfully than our usual rubbish so its not like we can just riff through them.

Again though, very open to anyone else having a go. Or even volunteers for a round-table type thing like we did for the Dredd movie?

General / New podcast suggestion - opinions wanted
04 July, 2011, 04:47:36 PM
I've been toying with the idea of putting a third podcast on the feed dealing with retro stuff. The first dozen or so podcasts we did all had very early progs also reviewed but it got dropped as basically we were always playing catch up with the new stuff and it was more for me to have to edit.

What I'm thinking now though is putting out 20-30 minute quickies each dealing with one old prog as the ECBT one comes out every other week at best.

From the old podcasts we recorded I can cut out the relevant segments and with a bit of editing can use these to cover progs 1-10 or so, then get into doing new ones for 11 onwards.

So my questions really are

1 - Is this worthwhile? Do people like hearing old progs talked about bearing in mind its usually a lot of joking about how silly a lot of it now reads

2 - If we did do this... would anyone else be up for doing them? I could give the idiots guide to recording these things (assuming people didnt know already) and post them up. Just thought it might be something some of you guys fancied having a go at. Dont know if it'd be rotating people talking or if someone really wanted to run with it.

Like I said, just an idea at the moment.
I'm also thinking of converting the first one into a Youtube vid with corresponding images after getting a mail from someone offering to do that to WHOLE episodes of the podcast we're doing now. Imagine I'll decide against that after 10 minutes work though. Its totally pointless but I'm enjoying mucking about with video editing stuff at the moment.

Anyway, be interested to hear what you guys think

I'd kinda assumed it had gone under already. Only ever saw it in Tesco but sure it hasnt been in there for a while.

That said I did recently hear Jimmy "If I was any less funny I'd be in America making Adam Sandler movies" Carr was doing something for it. Not overly impressed with the amount of stunt casting they seem to be doing. Didnt like Turf and the two parts of Frankie Boyles comic didnt do it for me either.
Sadly I do know a lot of sad fuckers who will and have been reading these purely to fucking tweet the celebrity at every turn telling them how great they thought it was... usually followed by a "oh... now can you RT this mate..."

Games / Anyone use the apple game center?
04 July, 2011, 10:53:16 AM
My iphone is too old for the OS4 to run without being clunky so hadnt used the game center but the ipad got updated on the weekend so I've been giving it a go.
Not sure what the point is other than for letting the wife know I'm better than her on Angry Birds. Have put MyBrute on there now though which I'll probably get way too into

Anyway, anyone who uses it and can give info on good stuff to get etc, let me know. Wouldnt mind some cool turn based games to play with Iz

And if anyone wants to add me (again, not sure why, but hey) I'm welshbluemeanie

On the Spectrum games thing, another one you could class as a proper playthrough as it took a LONG time was Skool Daze. Played that thing to death.

Only played through Dredd vs Death the once but have spent HOURS on Judge Dredd pinball. Still trying to get an emulator working that'll let me play it on the ipad

ALPHA - What you think? Rapid Fire?
DREDD - Unless you got a house we can drop on them

ALPHA - Maybe you shouldnt have shot that Wizard
DREDD - Nobody tells the Law to click its heels

ALPHA - Do you think you'll miss the Scarecrow MOST of all?
DREDD - I never miss

Really? I kinda liked the first Manhunt game but mainly due to the awesome Brian Cox voiceover work.
Never tried the 2nd

Would be much happier with an edit of that without fucking Eminem nasally crapping all over it, but otherwise looks like fun.

I made a couple of ECBt2000AD logos if you want 'em:

Thanks for those. Re-did the website header this morning using one of them slightly tweaked. Much appreciated mate

I really need to go back to Fallout3.
Put HOURS in then my save game screwed up on me. Woulda gone back but at the time I think I'd wandered so far off script that I'd been feeling a bit lost anyway

I suppose I should say excluding old games which had an hour or so playthough otherwise I'm back to my old fave, Rebelstar Raiders on the ZX Spectrum which I've done on the hardest level about 100+ times

For me it's actually the Wolverine game. Did the neutered and MUCH shorter version on the wii. Got the uncaged version for the pc when I upgraded my machine as I was pissed the wii version had zero violence or sentinel action and am currently half way through my 4th playthrough on that edition. Other than this one I cant think of a game of decent length I've played through more than twice. Even Batman has only had two work throughs and I'm still being precious about the Mass Effect games wanting to play through the whole trilogy once as a single story before I go back and change the plot points or characters in MY version (yeah, sad).
