Film & TV / Re: Sucker Punch (2011)

Watched this on Monday. Would say its far from a no brainer.... unless you want to watch it purely on the surface level the same way you probably could with Matrix or Inception as just cool looking action films.
Wasnt sure when it finished but it seems to be growing on me as time passes and I think about it more. Still trying to work out the levels and even if the third layer is the vision of a different person to that of the second layer... which makes no sense if you havent seen it and not too much if you have. Dont think the obvious angle that its all in the one girls head is the right one.

Anyway, aside from the head-fuckery the visuals were gorgeous and the total fantasy stuff was great. Will admit to not caring during those parts any more than I would watching a game cut scene, but then I still enjoy a good game cut scene.

Gonna re-watch in a week or so to see if my opinion changes.

And for the record, I'm in the "The version of Army of Me in this is the best" ... as much as I loved the original in Tank Girl.

Liked the artwork but generally ..... meh

Kinda feels like The Beatles covering a Westlife song.... if that makes any sense at all.

Ah well, not really done for us is it?

but the wings on his helmet are TOTALLY wrong!!!  #FAIL #THISMOVIEWILLSUCK

sorry, dunno what came over me then.

Looks awesome. Definately an opening weekend movie for me. I'm even willing to bear the over the top flag waving I'm sure it'll have which seeing as it stars a character called Captain America is probably fair enough.

Nah, save her for when they make a Necrophim movie

Saw the 3D trailer before Green Lantern and I'm sold.

Its Transformers, so just has to be big, dumb and fun. First two were, this one looks like being that too. Still gutted we dont get the now traditional Megan Fox "bent over a vehicle" and "running in slow motion" shots in 3D though. New girl not doing it for me

Would love the new version but have no system to support it.

That said I have it on the ipad which is pretty basic but fun and the wii version was surprisingly good and violent

Because I write reviews for ECBT2000AD, I have ration myself when listening to the actual podcast - if I listen to Rich talking about a prog before I've done a review on it, I'll end up subconsciously lifting stuff he's said. Though in fairness, he quite consciously lifts stuff Mark and I have said in the reviews for the podcast anyway.  ;) It's a vicious circle.

Yeah, I avoid the prog threads as I know I'll just be recycling stuff said in there but if we record after I've posted up reviews on the site its hard not to pick up on clever points you guys make that I miss.
Just a shame I cant blame you lot for the paedo jokes in this one  :-X

In this one Rich and Flint are joined by Mark : The Legendary Shark from the 2000AD forums to look at progs 1738 & 39. They are also joined by the much missed Zippo lighter for the first 5 minutes (sorry about that).

I think I cut out MOST of the offensive stuff, but sure there's still something in there to get you going. As well as the progs we discuss Mark's recent cameo in 2000AD and the recent announcement that 2000AD is going weekly in the US.

The death of Absalom in prog 1739 was pretty depressing. Really well written though. Was kinda surprised they.... ah fuck it, I've wound up the non subscribers enough. I'm kidding!

Um... saddest thing for me? I remember as a kid reading an ABC warriors and there was a robot who wore a suit. And at the end he takes it off and you see he's covered in dents from protecting a kid from his abusive father. Remember that REALLY getting to me at the time and feeling really sorry for the robot and the kid. Even had a weird flashback when I re-read it in the collection last year.

Yeah, all over this one when it comes out. Enjoyed the Shrek films (well, the first and last ones anyway) but it always felt a shame when Shrek was onscreen as the supporting characters were way funnier.
Could be the first of these kids cgi films we actually go to the cinema to see as opposed to watching at home.

Just back... really enjoyed it.

Wasnt the greatest movie ever but it was fun and thats all I wanted from it.

Really felt a lot of the choices they made were to make this first movie all about the good guy (some movies fall down for me by making the villain more interesting than the hero in the first installment) which is why the villains could possibly have been better defined.
Sinestro was introduced and if you stayed through the first 2 minutes or so of credits theres an extra scene which is basically the equivalent of Batman getting the Joker card at the end of Batman Begins. Worth watching and as has been said, real good use of the 3D
