So... any news as yet as to whether this con will be happening again next year? Coz if so, you can COUNT on me being there to whore out my lettering and inking services.

Amongst other things...

D'oh! I just posted about this in another thread.

REALLY wish I could go. ANy word yet as to whether it's happening again next year?

I was in Birmingham earlier this week for Auto Assembly, and partook of all-you-can-eat Chinese at the Ming Moon, which I believe is about two minutes away from the venue. Tasty, tasty stuff!

I'm kinda curious about BC 2011. I just got back from Auto Assembly, which was held at the same venue.

(Specifically, that would be the Holiday Inn in Birmingham City centre. Where I lodged a complaint against one of their bar staff for being unacceptably rude to me about somebody else's behaviour. Classy move, fella.)

ANYWAYS - I dunno if any board regulars here are attending that one? I was gonna try to get down to it, but time and money conspired against me. Hopefully I can make it next time. If there IS a next time, that is.

Well... shit.

GUESS who was supposed to hop on a coach to Birmingham tomorrow morning? To attend a convention no less, where a friend of his from overseas who he doesn't get to see very often is / was going to make an appearance?

Waiting to hear any more rreports form Brum as we speak. Last i heard, all transport had been cut off. So it's gonna be a case of waiting to see what happens in the early morning, I suppose.

Oh, I freakin' LOVE Glen Garry Glenn Ross!

The amazing thing about the movie is that it's not onlya great cast, but they're all on top form. And, given the subject matter, you'd not expect it to be so riveting.

Good stuff... and I'm reminded I need to buy the DVD.

Firefly/Serenity  fucking brilliant ....just a pity they had to wind the whole story arc of a tv show up in a film.
There was so much to explore in the show..the history of the priest Book(? wasnt it)....

I dunno if you'e seen it, but that part got addressed in the graphic novel 'Serenity: The Shepherd's Tale'.

It's the weakest of the Serenity comics by a long mile, unfortunately, mostly due to a narrative structure that DOES. NOT. WORK. But it still doles out some surprising origins-type info on Ol' Booky.

Wowzah, TordelBack! I can't believe the timing of that post!

I saw Watchmen for the first time a couple of nights ago. now, I've not read the book, as it just never appealed to me. But for £3.00 at Tesco (with beer, sushi and other assorted snackums) I felt like I could afford to indulge some mild curiosity.

And DEAR GOD -- I honestly think it's the worst film I've seen all year. It starts really well, but quickly barrells downhill. Besides Rorschach, I honestly felt nothing for any of the characters, and I found myself thinking at several points 'Uh... what's going on with the narrative here?' Really NOT a fan of the device of 'characters discuss predicament shortly before random outbreak of violence.'

I did wonder if maybe Watchmen would have made a better TV series than a movie, because it's obvious there's an expansive story there to be told. A 2-hours-plus movie just ain't gonna capture it. I just didn't feel at all involved in what was playing out on my TV.

Also, I've never been so irritated by a performance as I was by the guy who played Ozymandias / Adrian Veidt.

I've been finding that I have to log in twice to post here. The first tiem, I get an error message, but if I cycle back and log in again, everything's fine.

Also, I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, but I've got bacon instead.

Nah, just checkin'. Saw that movie last year. Can't say as I enjoyed it much, but there was undeniably a TONNE of visual cleverness in it!

By 'Paprika', do you mean the Satoshi Kon movie?

Saw the Liam Neeson flick 'Unknown' last night. Surprisingly good stuff! I could see the 'surprise twist' a mile off, but it was well staged and didn't feel out of place. I wish i'd watched that last week instead of 'Taken'!

That does indeed suck, Mogzilla.

I have new neighbours, who can't go a single day without standing outside (underneath my bedroom window) and smoking what seems like a whole pack of regular cigarettes. Being a devout non-smoker, it puts me off opening my window, as the stench makes me feel physically ill.

Also, my life is riddled with a procession of minor impediments because of this expensive keyboard that doesn't register all of my keystrokes. Apologies for the typos, folks!

Aaaaaaaaaand that is the last straw with the window cleaner.

Speaking as somebody who has worked in this field...

Entirely justified. There's two types of window cleaners. Bluntly thse fall into the category of 'legit' and 'chancers'.

The chancers are usually easy to spot. If your guy has no transport, does a bad job, has a slow work rate and is cheap, then something ain't right. During my time in that line of work, I spotted a number of these sorts dawdling about trying to earn easy beer money.

Honestly - and don't take this as a dig at your good sef, Emp, because you gave the guy a chance - I'm amazed that people take these types on in the first place.

The sad truth is, if you want quality work from your window cleaner, you DO have to shop around for someone who's trustworthy and be prepared to pay more than you might expect. Also, DON'T look for somebody on the basis that they will be regular as clockwork. Because NOBODY in that line of business can be.
