Well, it's got me thinking about picking up Blue Beetle...

You know, just to bounce off the last half dozen posts, we've been getting an aaaawful lot of telesales calls lately.

I know they're bogus, because the caller asks for me by name, then says 'you recently completed a market research survey for us--' at which point I cut them dead and say (truthfully) 'No I didn't', before simply putting the 'phone down.

We had about three calls form the same people like that. After the last one, I expanded my response to 'No I didn't. Don't call us again.'

And ever since, it's been nice and quiet...

A little update for those following the saga of my slog through 'X Men : The End':

I've been reading a couple of issues' worth of this whenever I get a bit of spare time (which, considering I'm contending with a house full of relatives and a dying grandmother, isn't all that often). Just managed to finish the second mini-series - and to my surprise, I stood back from the last couple of issues and realised 'Gosh... I actually ENJOYED that!'

It's still not what I'd call great, but there's a definite upswing in quality there.

Saw the Liam Neeson flick 'Taken' with the family last night.

Friends had been telling me for ages 'Aw yeah! You should see that movie! It's REALLY good!'

No it isn't. There's some cringingly lazy dialogue in the script, and DEAR GOD is it a contrived set up.

'Daddy, I want to go to Paris'

'I don't want you to go to Paris, sweetie.Something bad might happen!'

'What did you do for a job, Daddy?'

'I was a double-hard bastard and I worked for the government. In fact, I might not be able to tell you exactly what I did. because it's TOP SECRET and almost CERTAINLY entailed me killing people and blowing shit up.'

Can you guess what happens?

oddly enough, I was having a conversation about Power Paack with the guy who runs my LCS not too long ago.

DEFINITELY adding that to my 'stuff to pick up' list. I adored it as a child!

Watched the movie 'Sword Of The Stranger' last night. It's anime, to be more precise, but WOWZAH does it have some brutal, stunning action towards the end! It's animated by Studio Bones, who always excel at action sequences.

Anyone else seen it?

A complete tool over on another message board posted a couple of days back - at the end of a disgusting personal attack on another regular user - 'I I don't know why I bother posting this. The fascist mods here will only delete it!'

Which kinda made me think, 'Yeah, Why DID you bother posting that vile trash, you blithering little asswipe?'

Of course, I had the good manners not to post that.

Apart from... just there. Ahem.

Thanks to everybody who shared their views and memories of Chris Claremont's previous works. I genuinely, sincerely find it interesting to hear what you guys think about this stuff.

I'm still chewing my way through 'X Men: the End' - and I think I've worked out what my problem with his writing is. It's like he has loads of ideas, and some of them are GREAT ideas... but the execution of them is what spoils them for me. It struck me as I was reading the second half of what was the first mini; There's a goodly stack of pages devoted to set-up, but when the obligatory action arrives, it's full of really cringe-inducing dialogue. I can chalk some of the guy's delivery down to my own personal tastes, but when I was reading this comparatively recent series, I had to remind myself that it wasn't a much, much older book.

I'm currently reading a trade collection of 'X men: The End' by Chris Claremont.

I just...don't get Claremont. I mean... I know the guy has fans, but so much of this stuff comes off as random and devoid of structure. I picked this up thinking 'That has potential to be cool,' but... it's really not.

Van Dom - Noisybast - blahhdy hell, those are grim stories.

Hope some light appears at the end of your respective tunnels. I'll be rootin' for all concerned.

Well... poop.

Another frustration in my fledgeling comics career. I'd set up a listing on the Comic Art Commissions website, only to be told that my profile needed to be rebuilt to include my real name.

Ain't gonna happen. I'm militant to the point of stupidity about revealing my real name and other personal details. Non negotiable. End of. So that avenue is closed to me.

The explanation I was given seems reasonable enough, though, so I won't get a proper whinge on here. But who'd have thought the decision to operate exclusively under a pseudonym would cause problems, eh?
