Peter - I completely empathise with you.

I've undertaken work for NO PAY for people in the past out of 'friendship', and it has become very clear early on just what an ungrateful little turd my supposed 'friend' actually is.

I even recently had the experience of somebody I was doing a freebie job for reassigning the work to somebody else because they 'generally always guarantee a good result' - AFTER I had almost completed a portion of the work!

Now, as it happens, this took a lot of weight of my shoulders, as I was swamped with stuff at the time. But that's not the point. It was a crappy, unnecessary thing to do. And the added implication of 'I'll ask this guy because you're not as good as him' was a massive slap in the face. I'll never work for that guy again, and that's a FACT.

Some people act in a fashion that demonstrates very clearly that they're NOT your friends. They're just looking out for their own advantage. I reckon it's perfectly natural for you to feel as you do.

Chin up, pal. You're really best off out of a deal like that.

Maybe the other mods grew weary of their responsibilities, and this was their forum self-destruct protocol?

Oh man... the things I could say back to this...

Ugh.

A web forum that I used to use a LOT has just installed one of its most obnoxious, unpleasant regulars as a moderator.

I'm talking about someone who is INCAPABLE of making a point in a discussion without turning it into some sort of back-handed, sneering condemnation of somebody. And he's been warned about that several times prior to getting his new position. So now he has a small shred of authority to beat people about the head with.

So... that's me done with that forum. And several other regulars, by the sounds of it.

Why do these things happen?

I can thoroughly recommend Y: The Last Man.

It's not quite as clever as some folks would make it out to be, but is a DAMNED fine read.

Games / Re: retro gaming

Well me, personally... I'm disappointed. I lobbed aload of Playstation 2 games on Ebay this week, and apparently they're not nearly retro enough to attract the cool kids.

Of course, it could be the fact that a few of them are a bit poo...

I miss the days of the ZX Spectrum. I remember spending many happy hours in front of that thing. You just don't get games like Feud, Spindizzy or Head Over Heels anymore. They may have been simple, but the concepts were solid.

Ah, no worries then.

I await the final pages with interest!

Thanks to all who chipped in on the Astonishing X Men stuff.

Agreed, its OK and got some of the Whedon fans into checking out AXM but I didn't really feel like there was much new in there, where Morrison had really thrown wild ideas in and pushed the envelope.

It probably isn't a good place for a non-superhero reading 2000AD fan to dip their tow into the world of capes.

I really only picked the books up to see what (if anything) I was missing in superhero books, and also because I'm a fan of Joss Whedon's writing.

I'm gonna continue witht he run, because Whedon's weaving what looks like a neat over-arcing story. I plan to pick up the Warren Ellis penned books as well - mostly coz Ghost Box looks amazing - but no more after that.

We probably should flip panel 3 around.

If you do, be sure to send me the page after that's done.

Cheers!

I've been slowly working through some of Joss Whedon's run on 'Astonishing X Men'.

I'm not generally a superhero kind of guy, but I was feeeling the need to try something different.

The first trade, 'Gifted' really dodn't do it for me. I got too much of a sense of Whedon sitting back and going 'Oooh! Lookit all the lovely toys I have to play with!!!' - but thankfully, by the second trade, 'Dangerous' things seem to have kicked into gear. There's more of Whedon's wit and style about it. I particularly like d Wolverine's line 'I really like beer.'

Overall, my stance remains unchanged. I'm really NOT a superhero fan, it seems. So I decided to try out the modern Red Sonja comics. And a nice glossy collected edition of Danger Girl.

I'm not sure how well it would work, but it's a 'kin BRILLIANT idea!

Personally, I'd rather the route taken was with CG animated movies, if it ever came to pass. I really think Dredd needs to be in 3D as opposed to digital cels.

Off Topic / Re: Adobe: WTF?

Jim, you have no idea how reassuring this thread is.

I get that problem with links all the time. It's weird - sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.

What is it with Illustrator's abitrary bugs? I have frequent problems with exported files not coming out properly. Speech bubbles go missing when their overprint settings are correct. Strokes sometimes go missing. Yet, when I export the file again, it fixes the problem.

Eh??

None of the above, they just forgot to press record on the camera.

No, the cameras were recording. They'd just forgot to remove the lens caps.
