I've been keeping an eye on the live updates throughout the day. I find myself reading them in wide-eyed disbelief.

Seems the guy's flat was booby-trapped, with large quantities of flammable substances on site.

Just how sick IS this guy?

I think we're already ahead fo you there, Richie.

On reflection, as awful as the events are, it's only natural that they'd provoke comments here. But it may be best to try to keep this thread on track to discuss the movie itself. It would be awful if this horrendous stuff came to define the movie itself.

Ack - I express myself poorly. But you all get the gist, right?

Holy shit. We'll get all the usual dickheads now saying that it's the movie's fault.

Utterly contemptible - you'd think as a supposedly intelligent species we'd be above such idiocy by now.

As my facebook buddy Ron Fortier said over there, 'this is not a day for commentary.' Our thoughts and concerns need to be with the innocent victims.

I just saw that on MSN - utterly sickening.

There's not a lot these days in the news that has any kind fo visceral effect on me, but that report actually made me freeze.

Horrible to contemplate, and my heart goes out to the families of the victims. A truly awful occurrence.

Chris Tookey really is an epic level asswipe.

That is all.

Sigh... Roger, your MOM is Prometheus. Or over. Whichever gets me the biggest and cheapest laughs.

I brought this up WAAAAYYYY back in the thread - but do folks who enjoyed this movie REALLY have to be labelled as 'deluded'?

Is it not simply enough for some folks to have enjoyed the movie, and continue to enjoy it in spite of its problems?

I think a lot of it comes down to what personally resonates with the reader.

These days, it takes a LOT to get any kind of emotional reaction from me. There are jsut a few things that'll do it. But when those buttons are pressed... oh my!

Yeah - in fact, I'd go as far as to say that Strontium Dog was one fo my favourite strips in 2000AD back then. Seeing those side-stories was great - it meant I got more of that crazy world of mutants and bounty hunters.

Every time I re-read Akira, the final leg of volume 6 slaughters me.

There have been occasions where I've read and found myself welling up. The final exchange between Kaneda and Tetsuo, and the high stakes of the finale - what a roller-coaster!

Hollywood must never - EVER - be allowed to ruin that.

Listened to that JoBlo podcast - 100% positive, overwhelmingly, nothing like the Raid except for being stuck in a building.

GOOD! I'm glad *that* particular slice of internet punditry is being put to rest.

It's confusing and the plot didn't make sense? How is it a good movie then..? Surely these are the most basic elements of cinematic storytelling, and this movie failed on both counts miserably!

Hang on... I didn't find it at all confusing or hard to follow... so... what does that..? I don't even..?

They were all dreadful. Let sleeping dogs lie.

I beg to differ! They were a highlight of the prog for me as a kid.

I notice that stuff I remember fondly from 2000AD seems to hold up remarkably well even now - the likes of The Horned God, ABC Warriors... while I don't think Tales From The Doghouse would be in *quite* the same ballpark, I'd liek to revisit those stories.

Would prefer it if we could get a complete set of reprints of the Durham Red stuff first, though.

Yes, I'd like to see that as well.  I've never read any Nikolai Dante and I'd like to give it a go!

There's two of us now! That makes us an ARMY!!! HEAR US ROAR!!!
