Check that your hardware accelleration is turned all the way up. I recently struggled with all my PC games only to discover the reason none of them would work is because'd somehow turned it down.

Right click on desktop, go to properties, settings, advanced button, troubleshooting tab, there it is.

Or just go and buy an XBOX.
