It gets better elsewhere, honest. Edgbaston is beautiful.

I wasnt meaning to condemn the entire place as i am sure there are good bits outside of the city centre. The Jewelery district survived and is relatively intact. It should be named the silverware district rather than Jewelery as Birmingham produced massive amounts of silverware from the mid 19th cent right up to about the 1930-40s when it slowly became unfashionable. The Birmingham  hallmark is an anchor.

Rose wine. Strictly speaking, I do understand the appeal because people are lame like that. Sparkling Rose just tastes like gross pop.

Bellowing which university you went to via the medium of sweatshirt and/or t-shirt. Today I saw some small child wearing a jumper which had "OXFORD UNIVERSITY" on it. Now it's possible she will enact her 60%-polyester-ordained destiny, but it's sadly just as likely she'll be majoring in taking psychiatric drugs.

I think Oxford University TShirts are sold to tourists in shops like the way you can buy a Yale University T Shirt. It kind of cheapens the whole thing and i am surprised that Oxford allow it.Of course anyone who has actually been to Oxford wont usually advertise it but thats from my own experience* as their friends and employer or whatever knows about it but thats all.

Brown sauce has to be Daddies as none of the others that i have tried are any good except for M+S.HP is no good anymore as it has the wrong taste and texture and its too sweet tasting and not spicy enough.Try LeviRoots Reggae Reggae Jerk sauce as its the best brown sauce i have ever tasted.

*That sounds like i have been to Oxford which i havent  but i know others who did.

It's no mean feat to make a Viking art film, but, by christ, somehow they manage it.  And it's as confused and half-arsed as that very concept sounds.

As noted, Mads Mikkelson is good, and the rest of the cast - culled from most of the usual suspect ranks of the Jock Luvvie Brigade (I can only imagine that Peter Mullan must have been busy that week) - less so.

Yup. I really really wanted to like this movie, but... it's mostly a bit rubbish.
What it needed was a character to interupt every now and again and say, 'Sorry, but what the fuck are you talking about?'

I didnt notice anyone saying much at all as there was virtually no dialogue in it whatsoever.

SBT

I am not saying 100 percent that i am going but its very likely that i will as it seems a shame not to and the thought of a low turnout is quite sad so i will post a kind of minutes of meeting type thing here afterwards.

Here's a nice bit of politics. I like this man. Not afraid to say what he thinks, even if it might be unpopular:

Presenting unfounded rumour as fact eh? I can do that; Iggy Pop will be playing Judge Death

Quoted from @ItsReallyReallySoFuckingCool.com :

Our top secret undercover mole informs us that while hiding under the table at a secret unofficial Warner Bros board meeting it was overheard that Warner Bros have held preliminary overnight talks with Iggy Pops "People" as they really "Want" Iggy Pop to play the Joker in the remake/reboot of Batman Begins. They do however realise that this is a sensitive subject due to the ultimely death of Heath Ledger and Warners dont want to tarnish the towering performance of Heath Ledger as the Joker but they expressly expressed that this is an emotional knee jerk reaction and that no one would give a shit about that if Heath Ledger hadnt overdosed in a hotel room.

Our super secret insider mole also informs us that after the success of the Batman franchise Warner Bros knows only too well that there is plenty of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to be made from re-rebooting the reeboot and this indicates that Warner Bros are very serious about rebooting the TV series.

You heard it here first but keep in your mind that this is very very very early early talk but its looking good so far.........

I was just reading about Irelands Bankruptcy proceedings that are going on which will involve being "bailed Out" by the IMF to avert a bigger crisis involving potential and apparently inevitable bailouts of the "PIIGS"[how i hate that acronym] countries as a consequence of not accepting an IMF [theres a perfect acronym if ever there was one ]
"Bailout".

All the Shill central bank governers like Miguel Ordonez of Spain are bullying Ireland to go to the IMF and make the "proper decision" with their alarmism when they know that Spain is next.....

This is why the single currency always was meant to be a trap. Its the domino effect that is used to trap and force and blackmail a country like Ireland to accept loans from the IMF.This is what will happen to potentially every country within the \EU as they all have similar financial problems and each in turn will be bullied and blackmailed and forced to accept IMF "Bailouts".

They are told if they dont accept bailouts and go to the InternationalMotherF****** because OMG !! its such a big panic !!! then it will cause a complete collapse of the EUro and the sky will fall in.The UK is in a better position because its not joined the single currency as that was never part of the plan.

The Euro was sold on the basis that it offered security and stability when it should have been obvious to anyone that there are two sides to that coin and it was a clear case of Reverse-speak.Reverse its meaning to understand what it really means.

I feel so sorry for TordelBack as this is wicked what is going on and the Irish dont deserve it and neither does anyone else.

Its all for the greater good of the EU and the Euro apparently.

Saw this update about Urban playing Batman in a new TV show????

http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=19719&count=0

I get really tired of this kind of thing by this i mean the constant ongoing rumour mill of who is rumoured to be doing what in entertainment.

The article just says that Warners want Karl Urban to play Batman in a TV series but the article provides no info or source or even a quote to back itself up whatsoever. It tries to present rumour as fact.

I have just found the link [CBM]   but its just a repeat of what i have already read

Rubbish.

I have listened to My Bloody Valentine in bits but listened to Loveless again recently. Fuckin ace.

complete tone crush on Kevin Shields. I'm usually more into a clean sound but the sounds on that record are phenomenal, dirty yet melodic. Great stuff.

I still listen to that album quite a bit.If you like melodic distortion and feedback/effects then you REALLY should listen to the first self titled Flying Saucer Attack LP.

They were on Too Pure records. They did a fantastic cover of German Shepherds [Wire] which you can only listen to if you have a very rare LP of cover versions of Wire songs by various artists called Whore like i have. Its not uploaded on Youtube unfortunately.

Meltdown Man is also out now. I saw it in FP on Saturday.
I thought that wasnt out until the 11th November ?
FFS.I could have bought it already without waiting until Saturday.
Had a look at this in the shop yesterday too. I was quite pleased to see Alan Hebden acknowledge the debt the strip owes to Cordwainer Smith in his introduction. Now I can stop banging on about it.

I was very pleased and a bit surprised to see an introduction from Alan Hebden and it was good because i now know he is alive and well.

I also bought 3 copies from FP

Fuck it i thought as it may not get a second print and it was 3 quid off each copy.

Be Warned !

I watched this film about a week ago.

This is a Scandinavian art film and its very s l o w going for those with attention deficit problems buts its beautiful from a visual point of view and very atmospheric.

Its not full of battle scenes or anything like that.

I was buying books in an Oxfam shop the other day and I was invited to browse a basket of newly donated CDs in the back room to see if there were any I wanted or if I could sort out any I recognized for them to prioritize to be put in the shop (there were mostly quite obscure). I picked out about a dozen I thought would sell for between 99p and £3.99.

Among them was an album by Andrew W.K. How very odd. I'd forgotten he ever existed. I shudder at the memory of it.

Did you find anything interesting ?

Andrew WK appeared right at the time when i was still reading the music press and it was at this point that contemporary music and the music press started to really go downhill and i started losing interest in it all.

I never heard any Andrew WK but he was splashed all over the music press [as the next big thing] which was becoming increasingly juvenile.I think one track was "Party till you puke" which was something i had done myself a few times which meant i didnt feel the need to listen to a song about it.
