General / Re: What started you reading 2000a...

It was those Belardinelli colour centrespreads in the very first progs that got me started reading 2000ad not to mention the chance discovery in the newsagents as i wasnt aware of its existence as i hadnt seen any advertising for it anywhere.

I can still remember that day as clear as day and what happened.Summer of 77.

No other comic really interested me at all apart from reading some Action comics at about the same time.I found war a bore and wanted to escape into a different reality than that and 2000ad was what i was looking for.I stopped reading at about prog 400 or so as i started to get into other things by then and i found i wasnt enjoying it as much as i used to.Some of the strips werent to my liking.

I find these days that i still enjoy reading some of the old strips now as much as i did then and i never ever get tired of some of the artwork.I dont ever want to grow out of it and doubt that i ever will.

I bought progs 1 to 10 recently and since i havent read them for about 20 years it is going to be good.I dont want to read them digitally as it just isnt the same really.then i have about 30 more progs to buy to complete the set of 1 to 100.There seems little point in re reading unless i have the whole set.

I bet no one has one of these.I found it in a box of bric a brac.

Its a ceramic model of robbie the Robot from Forbidden Planet.

Its hand made as there are irregularities in the modelling and it has that metallic oxide type of glaze.

Never seen another and i would guess it dates from the 50s.

I dont know what the market for these items is like  .I know that if you collect dinky toys etc then they are always worth more with their packaging.

It looks like the Cellar of the house that has been DIYed.Its got that look to it.Horrible wallpaper.

It looks like a shop with everything still in its packaging.

I have similar reactions to above when i see others collections of original art but luckily i am not the envious type.

As she is lying on a bed with electrodes attached and not lying in the bath then i cant make a comment about detachable shower heads. You know the sort that is connected to the water taps.

I dont like the taste of cucumber either.

I was just trying to see it from a different perspective.Johnny and Wulf engaging in a lewd act within the pages of the comic ! Couldnt they wait till they got home ?

God if they hadnt been killed off and were still in the Prog they would be having full anal intercourse by now !

What are you lot like !

Its not possible that Wulf has been bitten by a venomous creature and that Johnny Alpha has just sucked the venom from the wound and is then spitting it out?

It looks that way to me anyway but perhaps i am wrong.

I am never that bored that i would want to watch television generally and even if i was that bored i see little point in watching it as i would be even more bored than i was before i turned it on.I only watch tv very selectivly and have always done so.

And comics have lost their grip as when you look in WHSmiths there is very little on the shelf apart from 2000ad comic and Megazine etc plus the smattering of Marvel comics etc.that seems to be all there is for kids these days.

Yet you get all those other not quite what to call them but they are not comics kind of kids magazines that all look the same and are always covered in clear cellophane packaging. There always  seems to be shelves full of those things.these are usually in a seperate section.

Video games came out at the same time as 2000ad as you got space Invaders machines in 1977.I loved video games but they never distracted me from comics.

Good storytelling and good art should appeal to any age.I it doesnt then you probably have something wrong with you. There was always a strong anti Establishment theme running through 2000 ad which i think is always a good thing especially for kids.

There were no references to sex in 2000ad as far as i was concerned in the old days but i never read 2000ad for that reason.Come to think of it there was a disproportionate ratio of women to men.Personally Sex is everywhere these days and i think 2000ad doesnt need explicit material in it but the odd tit or whatever doesnt really do any harm i think in the long term.

I dont think channel 4 create shows that anyone with any intelligence would like.Utter Garbage.Channel 4 create TV for women? If i was a woman i would take exception to that comment by Channel 4.An insult to ones intelligence .
