Books & Comics / Re: Kick-Arse

I hate Kick-Ass. With a passion.

In a nutshell I'd describe it as this:

Millar attempts to become Garth Ennis by writing a sweary, violent, semi-self aware book. It ends up as a poorly written mess, and basically amounts to "What if Spider-Man had no powers and had even shittier luck?".

Millar is very much hit and miss, and I have reason to believe this is the biggest 'miss' he's ever had.

Every time I see this thread sink I die a little inside, you guys know that, right?

The amount of bold text in this thread makes my head spin.

But!

I admire this thread, because I am a semi-decent cook who likes to learn new recipes. Today's attempt was a test run of my vanilla fudge brownies, which nearly came out brilliantly until the fudge sank to the bottom of the mixture in the pan and melted into a cement-like sludge.

Arse.

Off Topic / Re: Airport security - too much?

Airport security is rather bogus, but there is far too much at risk to not take insane precautions.

Seems I'll have to give this thread a kicking from time to time to keep it from sinking too far down the page. Oh well.

Remember folks, PM me if you're interested.

The Millar/Ennis comment is so utterly true. The man cannot use the word 'cunt' effectively at all.

I suppose I should elaborate a bit further.

The comic will be at the least 3 pages long, and 5 at the very most. I just want enough done to get the gag across. If people like it, then I'd certainly be up for making a few more of the same length if the artist was interested too.

So yeah, PM me if you're interested and I can toss some more ideas your way.

Not exactly.

Morrison's B&R is fairly isolated in terms of the DCU, unless there is some kind of reference or tie in later on. Otherwise, it's simply a similar name and the general idea of
raising the dead.
Now, I'm sure most of you know I like to sling my writing services about like some literary mercenary, but this time I'm asking for some assistance.

I have an idea. An idea I'd like to see as a comic. Not published of course, just something to put up here for people to enjoy. So, no payment, minimal glory, but you'll gain the satisfaction of knowing you've made an idiot in the Midlands a happy man.

Now, as for the actual idea. I'm going to be intentionally vague here for the purpose of keeping the punchline of this semi gag comic under wraps, but I'll provide more details in a private message if you're interested.

The basic idea is simple, I'm taking an almost parodical (not a real word, so sue me) take on the overly vulgar, violent, and sweary comics a certain Mr. Garth Ennis has been known to do. Consider it a loving tribute if anything, I wouldn't dare take jabs at the man who brought us Preacher and his fantastic Punisher MAX run.

So yes. That is what I'm proposing. Any takers?

Books & Comics / Re: Self pimping - PARAGON #5 - out now!

Note to self: Buy Paragon when fate kicks some dosh my way.

Blackest Night isn't tied into Morrison's Batman and Robin.

Both are utterly brilliant though, well worth picking up the single issues instead of waiting for the TPBs.

Is it wrong that I want Morrison to have control of Batman for a couple of years? He has honestly done more for the character in around a year and a half than the last decade.

General / Re: What first got you to read 2000AD

Like drinking, smoking, and having sex with anything that moved, peer pressure was what drew me to 2000AD.

Believe it or not, but the bloke who originally set out to write the film adaptation is a man who used to write for PC Gamer.

No, really.

Everything in this thread made my heart sink so low that I think it's in danger of falling out of my arse.
