Books & Comics / Re: Whats everyone reading?

Wrapped on Aliens: Genocide and now onto Aliens: Original Sin. This one is set after the events of Alien: Resurrection so enjoyed a little rewatch to put me in the mood. Has its problems, that movie, but I've always heartily enjoyed it.

You still in the Cardiff area HooHaa ? I can probably sort you out with some stuff if needed.

Yes I am, sir!

Particularly interested in the Durham Red stuff and JD case files, if there's anything you have for sale/ trade.

'Part cyberpunk futuristic thriller, part post-apocalyptic nightmare, Wayne Simmons's Plastic Jesus is a grim satire on contemporary western hedonism and the religious impulse... Simmons convincingly depicts an already hellish society's irrevocable slide into chaos. The author's previous novels have been in the horror genre, and this shows in his ability to pile on the terror and ratchet up the tension: Plastic Jesus is a stunning read, but not for the faint‑hearted.'

Say The Guardian of PLASTIC JESUS.

Should be in Saturday's paper or you can read it in full online:

Hey there,

First of all, welcome to the forums!

Recently bought a t-shirt (well, two, actually: both Judge Death tees) from Plastic Head, and although I take medium and can't help with your specs, I can tell you that the tees I got were both softstyle Glldans. Great fit, nice light cotton and overall good quality. I buy a lot of band tees and find Gildan to be the best and definitely more generous, size-wise, than Fruit of the Loom.

My first ever damaged copy :(

Sure they'd do you a replacement copy?

Judge Dredd: Really enjoying this but since one of you lot mentioned how CJ looks like Jessie J, I can't get it out of my head!

Ulysses Sweet: Afraid I'm with Proudhuff on this one.

ABC: Continues to entertain me. I haven't followed ABC much to date so not comparing it with other stories. Just enjoying it for what it is.

SD: Really loving the epic feel to this. And those skinhead norms make quite the menacing foe for Johnny.

Games / Re: New ALIEN game out late 1014.

Facebook (of all things) recommended it to me and I followed the link, watched the trailer. Looks great! Reading Aliens: Genocide at the moment, a tie-in novel, and really in the mood for revisiting the films. So this caught me at the right time. If it's on PC, I'll probably grab it.

Yeah, they're a good bunch of people.

Here's a trailer to launch the submission call for the Modern Dreams series:

Hey guys, figured some of you might be interested in this: Salt Publishing (who publish my latest book - cyberpunk thriller, PLASTIC JESUS) have put out a submissions call for novella length submissions of fiction across all genres.

It's for a new digital wing they're launching.

More details:

I've found Salt to be great to work with, thus far, so definitely worth giving a swing!

Ooops! Forgot about ABC in my mini-review. Safe to say it was awesome. Great how much character is injected into each of the bots, even the bit players. Artwork is breathtakingly good, too.

Help! / Re: ipad alternative tablet

My ghoulfiend got the Tescos Hudl for Xmas and is doing just fine with it. Cheap as chips, too:

http://www.tesco.com/direct/hudl/

Only drawback, as far as I can see, is no option to subscribe to the prog/ meg through it.

In fact, a lot of mags are only available as digital subscription, it seems, via ipad/ iPhone. Which sucks.

Dredd: Awesome. Reminded me of Aliens: you've got the planet where something's gone wrong; some hot-headed, over-confident marines going in with Dredd playing the Ripley role. Looking forward to seeing how it progresses.

Future Shocks: Really enjoyed it. Had a real old-school feel, like something I may have read in an 80s 2000AD or Eagle annual. Well done to the newbies who whipped it up.

Ulysses Sweet: Not sure about this one. Seems a little on the smug and overly comedic side for me, albeit dark comedy.

SD: Evolving nicely. There's such a high body count with each instalment, feck knows what they'll have to do to conclude this story. I've got my fingers in my ears already...

Get back to finest place on the WWW regularly

RIGHT HERE!

Yep, that's a good one. I'll do the same.

Someone mentioned on facebook that they don't like resolutions; they prefer 'to do' lists. I like that. So I made myself a 'to do' list, mostly around my writing work, to be honest. But I won't bore you with that.

Here's something that might interest you, though...

A good number of you guys seem to have NYRs around writing, too. So here's one that I made last year which I've found to really work: compartmentalisation. Basically, have a set period within the day (for me, it's 8-10am) where you do nothing but write. No internet, no TV, just writing for that period - be it half an hour, two hours, whatever.

Manage that and you can enjoy the rest of your time, guilt-free.

It's really worked for me :)

It's very cool, man! Well done! :)
