General / Re: Judge Dredd newspaper strip question

Was it not the Daily Star?

Someone much more knowledgeable than me will be along in a minute, Max, to clear it all up for you  ;)

Ran for some time, as far as I know. I remember them being collected in some of the 2000AD annuals back in the 80s. They're a lot of fun.

Wrapped on PSI Case Files 1.

About halfway through Rennie's Dredd Vs Death on Kindle and loving it. Not really a Dredd book, per se; more a MC1 book: equal time is given to Anderson and DeMarco.

Also working my way through a lovely paperback edition of Aliens: Genocide by David Bischoff, which is a lot of fun.

Thanks for the link, Dweezil!

Sounds like a reboot, then...

So.... I'm kinda out of the loop with Rogue. Is there any retconning afoot with this new series? Last I'd heard the original setup, with Bagman, Gunnar and Helm, was kaput.

Followed Minority Report up with Solaris (the Clooney remake). Now, this one I have seen already but it's well worth a revisit. A beautiful and heart breaking movie with a very simple and well-trodden concept at its core. Brilliant performances across the board and, although at times showing heavy-handed direction, on the whole very well shot.

Tried Aeon Flux after that. Oh dear...

Minority Report.

Late to the party with this one but really enjoyed it. Very similar vibe to AI, I thought. Usual Hollywood tick boxes apply, but at its heart, this is something truly great. Sci-Fi Noir at its very best.

Riddick's another one, though. Didn't Chronicles bomb at box office? And yet here we are, several years later, with a sequel...

Only after Riddick himself negotiated getting and owning the rights back from Universal by trading appearances in Fast & Furious films and then he put his house up as collateral to help fund it himself. Despite Chronicles... failure Pitch Black and the Riddick character all ready had an ok track-record before it and Diesel has an enormous world-wide following (58 million facebook followers) which helped convince Universal to agree to distribute the film for him.

Wow, I didn't know that. Fair play to him for going to those lengths. He must really believe in that character and franchise. And rightly so: I've thoroughly enjoyed all the Riddicks so far, including the animated stuff.

Thanks for that, Steve.

It's heavily reduced on all formats, now. So couldn't see them milking a special edition...

In Target yesterday buying Dredd for a Christmas prezzie swop thingie and the cashier told me they're discontinuing it on DVD and Blu-Ray. They had four more copies and then that's it.

:o

Wonder if that means it's due a re-pressing?

That would certainly help the case for a sequel.

Anyone know how much the film has made to date, including international DVD sales, vs. its actual budget? Tried a quick search online but no joy...
