Jim and myself were sorting out the respective competition threads by ourselves as far as I was aware.
Having one comp in one place, one in another and separating entry and voting threads is just going to confuse the shit out of people and piss them off.

Righto. Then the solutions are:

• Have it in this forum
• Create a new forum for them

Personally I think they'll be just fine here (if you and Jim are given sticky powers it will also mean less hassle for the mods) and I'd be worried that a sub-forum might reduce the attention they get.

If you've got a Gmail/Blogger account then you should automatically have a Picassa account, which might be a better longer term solution.

No the art competitions have been run by Jim Campbell recently. The SMF admin allows you to give permissions out individually so you could give him the powers to make posts sticky (urmmm) if that was the direction you wanted to go in.

Do you think there are enough competition threads to warrant a subforum? I haven't see that many threads thus far - would the be better off as stickies in this forum?

What it might be worth doing is collecting the various threads together in this forum, which will give a good idea of how many there are and they won't get lost in the general forum. You can then decide if a sub-forum was a good idea and if it was then they could easily be rounded up and moved.

My concern about a sub-forum is that the active threads can get buried (although I'm not sure how SMF does them but I don't think they show on the main page but it has been a while since I checked). I think your suggestion of stickying the current active threads is a good solution, for now.

Never used it for one important reason: if you have any intention to print your colour work, or to work professionally in any kind of graphics environment involving print, GIMP's lack of CMYK support is a deal-breaker.

A quick Google suggests CMYK support has been added to GIMPshop (although I'm unsure if this is true across all platforms):

Both of those are from back in 2007 so things may moved on a bit since then. However, I can't claim to know much about this so someone else would need to check.

It was written by Alan McKenzie and the background to his writing for 2000AD might require a trip to Thrill-Power Overload.

Anyone seen any coverage of this in the relavant press? Origins got a good mention in SFX and an interview over on the FP blog but I've not heard a sniff about this, despite the stonking line-up that has been put together to run alongside this. I would imagine you'd be able to interest some of the larger comics sites (Comics Bulletin would seem an obvious one).

I read Black Summer and it's okay. It has some great moments but there's a hell of a lot of pointless violence that doesn't move the plot on, and quite a lot of moments where the writer gives his opinions through the characters.

Thanks for that - what you say is pretty much in line with the reviews I have read which made me think I'd check this out later, if I can pick it up cheap (and I've not forgotten and probably some other stuff too ).
