I do do art, I'm just adding some bits to my blogger.

Ah ha. Nice work. Thanks for that - I did look at the blog but you'd not posted much there at the time.

It might be we want to steer clear of cash based projects are there are too many ways for people to get burned.

Yes please, I know you've go the idea but just to clearify for everyone else - I'm not going to allow anything involving money within this forum. Keep all that stuff to classifieds, pms, email, whatever. Just don't do it in this forum.

Thanks for clarifying - that was my interpretation of the guidelines. Anyway if you have a paying gig you'd want to approach the artist directly or cast your net wider. What I was thinking of was somewhere for people to post looking for an example script or a collaborator on a webcomic or if you are an artist with an idea looking for a writer to help develop it. Keep it tight, no banter that kind of thing. Of course, there might not be much call for it but if there is it'd be worth making sure the first post spells out the scope of the thread.

OK I have started it - make sure the first post is clear enough:

Somewhere for creators to come together and make small, perfectly-formed sequential offspring.

Remember if you are looking for someone to work with you on a paying gig then isn't the place for it (see this discussion). You are better off posting in the classified forums here or cast your net further afield at Digital Webbing's talent area or the DeviantArt's job offer forum.

So what kinds of things would work here:

  • Artists who have a great story idea but are looking for a writer to help them develop it
  • A writer with an accepted script but is looking for an artist - remember keep plot synopsis short and if you are looking for a specific style then describe it as best you can (it may be someone here has seen someone who fits the bill elsewhere)
  • If you want to be a comics writer or artist and are looking for a venue for your story
  • If you are looking to collaborate on a webcomic

Try and be clear and concise without giving away your story idea for free - if you are an artist then links to a gallery or blog is pretty important, otherwise how do we know what you can do? Also don't be a stranger - posting and running isn't very helpful, especially if people have follow up questions.

Also what struck me looking back on it, is that there are plot threads that he dropped in here which simmered away until cropping up in stories like Seven Soldiers.

I suppose it had to happen:

QuoteA wannabe Don Juan was tempted to a motel in Wisconsin by the prospect of a tryst with one of his numerous lovers. But instead of a night of passion, according to court documents, he found himself confronted by four angry women – among them his wife and another girlfriend – and on the receiving end of a revenge attack grisly enough to make any philanderer think again.

Prosecutors are investigating the convoluted incident that ended with the man tied to a bed with his penis superglued to his stomach, an apparent punishment for his womanising ways.

www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/aug/04/philanderer-has-penis-superglued

I await the news that kids on run down estates have started suckling black, oily milk from the suppurating teats of some monstrous OAP.

All the links in the Colouring Tutorial thread are dead, Emp ...

The Internet is rubbish!!

Here is the new link to the D'Israeli colouring tips. You can also go via his main site and click "education". He is, of course, The Man and his advice is pretty clear and straightforward.

OK we now have a general colouring discussion thread so anyone wanting to ask questions about colouring can do so over there, so this thread can stay focused.

Looking at the embarrassment of riches in the zip file has supplied it seems like a good idea to make the first challenge that corking Judge Dredd pin-up (dredd-on-a-bike-meg-flat.tif) and we can have a future Colouring Challenge on the first page of the Dredd story when everyone has eased themselves into things.

I've mentioned it before, but I'd love to be able to browse all the art comp entries in one gallery (or even just the winners).

Points eagerly to an earlier post. This would be a quick solution to that which could be started right now. With the right tagging people can jump straight into all the forum competition threads and then narrow it down to the different competitions using the more specific tags.

Actually just looked at the rules and realised there's a much better way of doing this. Hopefully this URL will take you to a gallery of all 8 pages. Apologise for multiple posts before.

Good stuff thanks for that.

It also underlines another feature of the medium - it is in landscape not portrait.

One thing I was wondering about - as it is designed for the screen do you think you need slightly less panels per page than you'd use on a printed page?

I see you've got it pretty well plotted out - did you treat it like a movie trailer, as the first chapter of a story or as a standalone attention grabbing short story (that leaves the door open for a longer story)?

OK the first colouring challenge has started. If anyone knows of any other work that might seem good for such a challenge then drop a note in here and we'll see what we can do.

Also if anyone knows of a page in the sample scripts that is flexible enough to allow for a range of artistic interpretations (which would make it ideal for an artistic challenge) then point it out and we can look into that too.

Any other ideas? Then don't be shy.

Fantastic! Thanks for this.

As mentioned here I suggested we have some challenge threads and you can consider this the first Colouring Challenge thread, inspired by this thread and PJ's friend recolouring that very page.

So here you can break out the crayons and have a go at colouring a genuine Judge Dredd page. I'd suggest keeping things open and informal - no deadline, as many goes as you like and only offer constructive criticism if the person posting their attempt asks for it.

I will also start a general colouring thread so if people want to discuss techniques and get some tips on how to go about this they can do it there.

When are we going to get a Zenith t shirt IE black withe a yellow flash.

Not until the Zenith mess is sorted out. Not enough people are implementing my suggestion, so you are probably jiggered for now (unless the legal negotations work I suppose).

What the suggestion that we beat ourselves off and think very hard about zenith trade paperbacks?? Surley we all do that anyway?

We clearly all aren't or it would be resolved by now. Someone somewhere isn't pulling their... weight.

Red Eye is out and there is a good review of issue #4:

http://paragoncomic.blogspot.com/2009/08/redeye-magazine-out-now.html

It is only a bin lid for the electronic version of Red Eye so it'd be rude not to.
