Excelent top 3 - well done.

Themes:

I like the New Years Resolution one but wonder how easy it would be to carry off.

How about: "When good characters go bad (and vice versa)" - perhaps they have mad New Years Resolutons to be nicer or to take a walk on the wild side.

Mean Machine helping an old lady cross the road but he does it by headbutting her.

Judge Anderson as the leader of a gang of lesbian bikers.

Rogue joins the Norts.

Recently 2000 AD has been pretty damn solid and looking at the current issue (1518) I'd certianly buy it without Dredd being in it.

What's white and sticky?

A blind man's eyes.

Thats along the same lines as a friend's favourite joke of all time:

Q: What's brown and sticky?

A: A stick

Bristol are already announcing it as a celebration of 30 years of thrillpower on their front page.

1. Johnny Stress - loved the Snow Angels but Slade manages to just top it.

2. Radiator - for the Kano one

3. Swimini Tulkas - great concept and the Xmas tree-shaped muzzle flash sealed the deal.

Honourable mentions to you all picking a top 3 was horrible (although that is no excuse for wimping out and not voting!!)

All a bit disappointing as it didn't do what it said on the box. It was more "A week following David Icke around" which had mild interest I suppose.

Was he right? Didn't he predict the end of the world by 1997?

I was hoping that Mrs Trellis of North Wales was going to photocopy the bit about Mrs T 'shagging in the style of dogs' with Saddam and send it to the Daily Mail... Why must we throw this pop filth at our Kids?!

I think it is Mrs Theresa R. Ellis. Just looking out for little Warren.

Film & TV / Re: Worse than Aliens???.............

To be fair, I read the book adaptation long before I saw the film, which made the film a bit of a letdown. The book was also based (as far as I can tell) on the director's cut as well- which reduced the film I saw to a caricature of the original 'Alien', and felt like a bad adaptation of a pretty good book called 'Aliens' (yes, I know it was the other way around), with lots of gung-ho, crappy overacting- particularly by the female marine and wotsizname that was in twister (Bill Paxton?).

Yes the spin-offs are often better than the films. ADF's novelisations are great and his Aliens is probably the best of the bunch. The AvP comics are all better than film but that probably didn't need saying. A lot of people also felt that the story in Mark Verheiden's comics was a better continuation of the story than Alien 3 turned out to be although it did go through developmental hell (I quite liked the sound of some of the madder ideas they had for it like a group of monks on a wooden moon that was shrinking as they used up the wood).

Brain tumours indeed. It seems the only explanation for all this lack of love for Aliens. Possibly due to lifelong exposure to Thrillpower.

Someone is going to wander in here soon and say the Director's Cut doesn't kick extra ass.

I love that film, but sadly there's no Channel 5 at Trout Towers. And I'm at work. BAH. - Trout
I'm a bit worried by this whole Aliens/not good meme that seems to have been going around lately - That's a clear sign of insanity.

I suppose it depends.

Starship Troopers isn't as good as Aliens. So I agree with the title. The thing sis that Aliens is great so it'd have to really push the boat out. ;)

"Starship Troopers... I read the book in the school library "

haha- theres a book?

isn't that kind of like saying

"I read Dumb and Dumber in the local library"

The book has already been discussed above. I really only mentioned it as I thought it was an odd thing to find in a school library (especially as we were split site so it was for 11 and 12 years old) but it was a Catholic school so perhaps I shouldn't be so suprised ;) I was quite grateful for it at the time as it was more thought-provoking than most of the rest of the fiction they had.

Oh and Starship Troopers... I read the book in the school library when I was 11 and it was OK, quite liked the film but I thought the computer animated series was better (although I did seem to catch them in the very early hours so may not have had my critical facilities engaged).

Anyone reading Tony Lee's ST comics he is doing for Markosia? I don't recall seeing any reviews so I'm not sure what they are like.

I had always wondered about Yautja from the Predator movies using the high weaponry that seemed to be beyond even their apparent level of techology. They look and act like primitive hunters from space. I guess they were alot like american-indians who started trading their squaws and land ( This is rough guess.)for guns with the cowboys.

They most certainly aren't engineers.

Thy have some serious technology (see their dirty great spaceships) but their society appears built around hunting (see also the Hirogen) which has lead to an interesting design mix of high tech and neo-savage chic. The Klingons are along similarish lines with strong traditions keeping some aspects of the design more brutal.

One could argue that the Space Jockeys had a hand in it (or that the Predators have reverse engineered Space Jockey technology) but I don't think it is necessary. Just because our ideas of a technological advanced culture seems to currently involve sleek shiny things and everyone wearing velour jumpsuits doesn't mean that is the way it will be and doesn't really apply to other cultures. ;)

It's occurred to me that my comment above might be offensive to some

What I meant to say was;

"they all have lovely bottoms"

Alan Moore and Ian Gibson??

I'd heard about Alan Moore's buns of steel but nothing on Ian "The Glute" Gibson.

I think we deserve an answer!!
