Quote from: Phantom on 25 March, 2012, 05:30:38 PMQuestion three - any artists or writers drop in on the forum?

There are a few regulars and other occasional visitors:

Quote from: Phantom on 25 March, 2012, 05:30:38 PMQuestion five - rude - unpolite question - why would I buy full price when this site sells back issues so cheap? I could wait and buy runs at half the price or less by waiting a month. Seems counter productive on the sales fount.

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think back progs are always so cheap - there is currently a sale on. You'd need to wait a year to get those prices again and, once you are hooked on thrillpower, waiting the 4 days between subscribers getting their copy and it appearing in the shops can be difficult - waiting months would be agony!!

Well I didn't do a good job of that last time. However, I think this April might be different. I've started getting all my projects up to speed and being able to blast out a solid slab of pages would be a big help to move everything forward.

Can't remember it ever being confirmed, but I imagine that the prison wardens, Cursed Earth rangers, west wall gunners and the like are made up of ex-judges or those that didn't cut it as regular judges.

I think we've kicked this around before.

I tend to like the idea that you get your full eagle when you graduate as a Street Judge, but this takes a very special combination of skills, personality and training. Those who don't make it would be redirected into other areas depending on their aptitudes - so methodical detail-oriented people might become a Forensics Judge, those good with machines become Tek Judges, sneaky gits end up in PSU, really sneaky gits get swept up by the SJS, etc. Otherwise there would be large numbers of disgruntled people with Judge training being put out onto the streets and this could be a disaster. Only those who really don't fit are then ejected completely from the system - we saw this in Marauder and it is clear the mayhem even one such individual can cause, I'd imagine quite a few others are swept up into private security firms which would tend to keep them out of trouble, but in the longer term it could cause larger problems (I read the other day that Group Four have 600,000 employees - which is quite a private army). There is potential for a story in there...

The 2000AD novice reviews at FP continue:

QuoteIt's a great, typically high concept Pat Mills story. Time travelling Dino-farming. Cowboy cattle drive meets Jurassic Park. Logic may be flawed though – surely better and safer to time travel back a little less and just farm safer animals?

I've long maintained that Pat Mills is perhaps the greatest exponent of writing 2000AD format stories; the perfect 6-page episodic writer. In fact, he does it so well, that reading his work from 2000AD in longer form actually feels slightly wrong. But here, it's perfectly done. A great, great start.

Great decision with this one to stick with black and white as well, as Mckay's rather loose line and scratchy artwork looks suitably rough and raw – tooth and claw indeed, just as nature should be.

...

Age Of The Wolf continues to impress as well. Good solid artwork and writing in it, nice storyline developing as the wolves of Britain circle the heroes, smarter than before, learning, more dangerous....

The Laundry files, 3 books by Charles Stross...The Atrocity Archives, The Jennifer Morgue & The Fuller Memorandum.  James Bond meets Cthulhu.

I've enjoyed them, the first stories are a bit rough around the edges but enjoyable. Also read his A Colder War:

If you like those then give Tim Power's Declare a spin.

Well now we have clarified that, this gets my vote.

I think the lack of Scojo (and some temporary bans) have made people forgot what it used to be like on the forum, time for some excessive and arbitrary terror!!
