Prog / Re: Prog 1568 : BAD BRAINS!..........

What's going on? 5 good stories in one prog so early in the year?  With Dredd as the weakest?  I never think Dredd is the weakest strip ever, even if it's the snozzbournes.

Kingdom is my new favourite story, Stickleback is just slightly too much work to follow after a hard day at work.  Shakara is bonkers and Strontium Dog is Strontium Dog.  Dredd is fun enough, but I think I overdosed by reading the Prog and the Meg in one long go, and I can't even remember any details of the Dredd, so will just go and have a look to remind myself - hold on...

Oh, yes.  It was good enough fun but instantly forgettable.

Excellent Meg - I can't get enough of Mayor Ambrose,  in quite a bizarely touching story (his love just wanted him to be happy- awww...), and was pleased to see mention of him in Prog 2008 - I love the fact the Judges approve of him!  PJ Maybe is a great villain and every time you think he's been overused, Wagner proves you wrong.

I quite enjoyed Tempest right up until the ninja judge turned up, though maybe I'll warm to the idea once it gets going and his background becomes a bit clearer.  Finally, I have never been a fan of Armitage, but this episode made me want to keep reading.

Wasn't sure what to make of Bob the galactic bum, but it's Wagner, Grant and Ezquerra so I am sure it will be worthwhile.

Apart from the Grant interview, the rest of the text articles were left unread.  I hate all movies so wasn't interested in the reviews, the Lost Girls I have very little interest in despite liking both porn and Alan Mooe, and I already have my own opinions of all the dredd strips - I'd much rather see the space those articles take up used to reprint hard to find Dredd stuff (even if it's awful) such as the 2 Dan Dare annual stories filling up those pages, but it's not as if i didn't get a great Meg this week so I'm not complaining.

Isn't Marilyn Manson about the same age as Lulu?

Every single strip was great.  Even the ones i don't usually care about.

Dredd: Fantastic.  Just superb.
Shakara: Considering this was a strip I hadn't bothered reading before, it go me interested.  Which progs are the rest of this story in again?
Kingdom: Loved it.  I really liked the original series so was looking forward to this and was not disappointed.
Stickleback: Awesome.
SinDex: Amusing and enjoyable, which isn''t something I ever thought I'd say about SinDex.
Cabs: Back on track, though I had enjoyed the last outing just becausse it was, well, Cabs, this makes you remember why this story is rightly considered a classic.
Stront: Well, It's Johnny and Wulf.  Great stuff.

Dredd is still the highlight for me - this episode was the best of Dredd.

I didn't get Droid Life, though, and normally I love this.  Otherwise this is a perfect prog.

There is no need to animate or add music.  Just make the progs available to download as is, and I will buy them.

It won't make any difference to pirate copies being available - it's not as if you can't already download the latest prog about 1 day after it has officially been released anyway - if anything, it'll make the pirates wonder why they are bothering to scan the issues.  I'd rather buy the progs legally but I do want them digitally as well, and am prepared to pay to download 2000AD legally, just as I am prepared to pay for music on iTunes even though I am fully aware of how to get the same songs for free.  (unless its metallica, in which case I'd rather download it for free just to irritate them)

Wonder if back issues will become available digitally?  Priced right, I'd buy em.  It'd help me clear out a lot of attic space.

But the real physical paper progs have to stay, too - it will just be nice not having to worry about storing them if I can just re-read them on screen, and buy graphic novel collection of favourite stories to read like a proper book :>

I was never a fan of Armitage, due to it being hard work to read. I thought the Meg suffered when it was trying really hard to tie evrything in with the Dreddworld - even Al's Baby had a Judge on the first page - which just seemed like it was trying to excuse itself for being in the Meg when it shouldn't have had to as that was a great story.

New Tank Girl is a great idea.  I'm sort of a casual fan so this pleases me.  For reprints, well, I don't actually read comics with the exception of 2000AD and the Meg and the occasional GN (I have a couple of Tank Girls, a couple of Alan Moore's, Maus and Jonny The Homicidal Maniac) so most of them were new to me and I was enjoying Preacher, so if that were to return I would be pleased, to be honest, as I have no idea where the story went after the Meg finished reprinting it.

I like the Meg, and want it to continue.  I usually read it all, but gave up on Blood of Satanus with the intention of reading it all in one go once it was finished, but I haven't got around to doing that yet and probably never will, which is a shame as it's probably the first Dredd strip I have ever avoided reading all the way through.  I enjoyed bits of it but then  it got to be too much effort, and I am very lazy.

I was never really a big buyer of 2000AD trades until they started on the complete and in order stuff, as I have all the original comics, but having said that, I have bought the Dredd Casefiles 1 - 8, the Stront Agency Files 1 - 3, the first 2 Nemesis ones, and the first 2 Cabs ones.  And the 2 Cabs trades.  Oops.  Oh, and the complete Halo Jones.  I''ll buy stuff thats complete and in order, it seems... easier than digging the progs from the loft.

The 3rd Stront book is the best of the lot.

i started with prog 1, had been looking forward to something to replace Action, and was already a bit of a sci fi geek as well as a comics fan.

I read and collected all the progs, plus Starlord and Tornado, up until just after the Apocalypse War ended, whereupon I discovered Smash Hits and synthpop and gave all my comics away.

I gradually turned goth, and found this little games shop in Manchester Arendale called 'Games Workshop', which sld Alchemy jewellery, tarot cards and had some very nice looking model dragons.  I used to browse about in there but wasn't interested in the games they sold till I saw the Judge Dredd Role Playing Game, and loved the look of it and started to reminise about how much I had loved 2000AD.  So I bought the game and devoured the rulebooks and started playing it - which meant I had to start reading 2000AD again for background material.  My re-jumping on prog was 502, and I have since collected some back progs and complete Dredds (and now the Case Files) - but at some point I think I'll have to get hold of progs 1 - 430 to complete my collection - only then I'll want the Starlords and Tornados and Actions ans Summer Specials and whatnot, so I'm probably best leaving it and sticking with case files type collections and extreme editions.

I really want to get hold of the banned Cursed Earth Dredds, though.  They're what stuck with me throughout the wildreness years of not reading.  I'm still slighly afraid of Ronald McDonald...

Complete Stainless Steel Rat.
I agree on the Incomplete Chopper - end it where he dies, and add a panel to the effect that he did die there, and everything that came after was just a dream.
Complete Dredd annuals and specials
Daily Star Dredds
complete Cabs in one big book.

I was surprised to see Justice Department still trusting outside manufacturers to make thier equipment - you'd think they had learned thier lesson by now what with Narcos and his lawgivers and... um... PJ and his trousers...

Film & TV / Re: Tansformers: Indie teen comedy...

My main problem with the film is that is was boring in a way that no film with fantastic special effects about giant robots from space fighting each other has any right to be.

It had everything I wanted it to have - well, except for zombies eating brains but I suppose you can't shoehorn those into every movie - but it was still dull.

The action scenes were confusing - you couldn't tell which giant space robot was getting it's head kicked in half the time, and that's only part of what made it suck so badly.

The movie would have benefitted from being an hour shorter, with action scenes that made sense as well as looking cool.

It had great music, though.

Prog / Re: PROG 1546 Law Crimes

Also, it wouldn't be the first time Dredd has actively opposed the system he represents.  If he hadn't been a 'bleeding heart liberal' and just did his duty as written when Cal took over the City, he would have stood firmly for the Chief Judge.

Opposing laws he feels strongly about - lawfully - doesn't weaken his character at alL.  It shows his strength of character to satnd up for what he believes is right.  The fact he still applies the law to the letter even when he doesn't agree with it - his 'I'm sorry but I have no choice' stance -  shows his dedication to the Law, and is far from wishy-washy - it's the kind of moral dilemma that would tear a lesser character apart.

Also, the Council of 5 are stupid to disagree with Dredd, as he is always proven right in the end.
