Quote from: "Matt Timson"It's out on the 17th of December from all good comic shops.  And crap ones too, I suppose.

That looks fantastic, Timson. Of course, we all know that you honed your artistic skills cheating at the 2000AD Art Comps, so I'm taking credit for your success.

Cheers!

What do you mean, you're still catching your breath from the last one? Suck it in, and get back to those drawing boards and graphics tablets, Earthlets, because ...

It's CHRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISTMAS[/i]</Noddy Holder>

Courtesy of the gorgeous, pouting Queen Firey-Bou, this month's art compo is:

Christmas Card designs a particular 2000AD character would send.

The competition starts now and will be open for entries up to midnight Friday January 2nd, after which voting will begin in the now time-honoured tradition.

I'm looking forward to this one ...

Cheers!

Quote from: "Mike Carroll"I'm reluctant to direct my younger readers towards this site 'cos I don't want to be seen to be promoting profanity!

Actually, Mike, forgive me for following up on this, but exactly how young are these readers?

The reason I ask is twofold:

1) 2000AD has -- in the last month -- contained its usual quota of graphic violence, plus frontal female nudity, plus at least one person saying "Shit" (in the current issue, no less).

2) 30 years ago, by the time I was finished with junior school and was ready to go to the local comp, despite coming from a nice, middle-class family and living on a nice, middle-class estate, and having parents who absolutely did not use any of the 'big' swear words in front of me and my brother, I somehow had a fully functioning vocabulary of profanity up to and including f*ck and c*nt, so whilst you might not want to be seen to be promoting profanity, I'm broadly confident that the little bleeders in question know more rude words than you do.

Cheers

Quote from: "Jim_Campbell"How's that? ;-P

Of course, I now realize that the above post makes very little sense now that I've change my sig line to something substantially less offensive than the Ed Byrne quote. Oh, well ...

Pausing briefly to salute the recipients of equal Honourable Mentions -- MIK, Mike Carroll and Banners -- we crown the Queen of the board once again:

Queen Firey-Bou.

The adulation of the board is yours, QFB, as is the choice of December's theme for the Art Comp. Many congrats!

(If only there was some kind of event or holiday around which we could develop a common thread for competition this month ...)

Cheers!

In a nail-bitingly close race for the top position, second place ends up going to:

Once again, Art Compers, I have to salute all your efforts in the face of (I thought) really quite a tough competition this time around.

You are all winners, in a very real sense ... except the sense of actually being the winner, obviously, because there's only one of those, which we shall get to in a moment.

In third place, however, we have:

LARF.

Help! / Re: Happy Shrapnel
10 December, 2008, 11:04:48 PM
Quote from: "Bouwel"Edited to add: It's literally two lines saying he died in a brawl.

... on Mars, IIRC. Because that makes a difference.

I had a fantastic re-working of Happy Shrapnel as the robot equivalent of an Old Testament prophet (complete with a some sketches that were remarkably good, for me) until I was taken to one side and had it gently explained that Pat would sooner see my (or any other writer's) nads on a stick than let people develop stories based on his characters.

Never mind, eh?

Cheers!

I think I've now seen the entire movie in leaks on YouTube ...

Quote from: "TordelBack"Although there's some very strong stuff towards the end that the movie (rightly) shies away from.

I thought it was kind of ironic that the movie skips the most obviously Cronenberg-ian moment in the book.

Quote from: "Pete Wells"We salute ya Jim!

'Tis a welcome distraction, sir, and a pleasure to marshal (however vaguely) all these creative impulses into a single, 2000AD related direction.

Like everyone else, I remain constantly surprised and amazed at the raw talent displayed on these threads and if all it takes is my having to tally the votes every month to keep it going, it's a small price to pay.

Cheers!

Quote from: "peterwolf"No problem at all Jim and i respect the fact that you apologise.Apologies for my comment too but at the time i thought ? as it just didnt sound like you TBH so no offence was taken. 8-)

Honestly, I was pretty steaming last night and had no actual recollection of making the post until it was brought to my attention, at which point I had no hesitation in apologizing: the post was bad-tempered, unpleasant and unnecessary.

I will probably be less in evidence on the board until my situation improves, since I seem to be comprehensively unable to keep my temper in check at the moment, and there's no reason why everyone else should have to put up with my crap.

Apologies to one and all.

Cheers

Jim
