i don't think so. linehan's social media crusades have very often been couched in the terms of outright hate. he has created great fear for the victims of that hate, and actual danger and damage. crucially, he never ever stops.

Very much this. Linehan has lost his mind. He genuinely needs professional help but, in the meantime, he's doing genuine harm, legitimising hate towards a marginalised and abused group.

Whilst I might have some sympathy for whatever breakdown Linehan has gone through, he's a CIS white man with considerable wealth. The people he's encouraged hatred towards don't have that cushion.

Back on topic, though: I'm no expert on forms of government, but I'm pretty sure you can keep a prime minister without keeping a monarchy.

The amusing flip side of this is some of the vox pops that the news media has been doing over the last couple of days with people expressing their views on why Charles shouldn't be the next monarch. I fear these people may have drastically misunderstood how the monarchy works — folks, you don't get a vote... this is the MONARCHY.

'Kinell. That was a bit of a nail-biter.

No it was released last Friday. I was trying to do a Jedi mind trick, but failed. Hard to do over the internet.

Ah. Sorry! Yes, I get it now. See? Early-onset dementia.

This was never in a Friday slot.

Wasn't it? I was sure the first two were released on Friday. Never mind, then... probably just early-onset dementia on my part.

Heads up! Disney has moved Obi-Wan to Wednesdays, so there's a new episode out now. Possible Ep3 spoilers may occur from this point onwards.

(I haven't watched it yet, but wanted to drop a marker here for people, like me, who weren't expecting to see the next part until Friday.)

How can we not have a thread for this yet? I'm not going to post any spoilers here, but I'd suggest going forward that if you haven't seen the most recent episode, steering clear of this thread until you have.

I'd suggest that anything that's been broadcast is fair game and doesn't need a spoiler tag, but if you've got a rumour of something upcoming, or even just some informed (or inspired!) speculation, you whack a spoiler block over it so people can decide whether they want to come to each new episode cold.

So... short, non-spoilery opinion after two episodes: it's fucking great. It looks fantastic, the performances range from fine to excellent, and there's an inspired plot driver that wasn't in the trailers that very quickly takes the story somewhere you might not have been expecting. As I understand it, pretty much everything that was in the trailers was taken from these first two episodes, so it's safe to assume there may be a few surprises in store before the end.

Highly recommended, by me, at least.

Well, that was great. On the train home (lettering an episode of Hope for the prog, as it happens) after a top weekend. Managed to sign a bunch of stuff for quite a few folks on the Sunday, but apologies to anyone who missed me on the Saturday — when John Wagner nicks your table, you don't argue. :-)

If we do this again next year and you want something signing, or just to say hello, collar me wherever you see me. Don't worry if it looks like I'm talking to someone, the other person will probably be glad of the opportunity to make a getaway.

Looking forward to the RoK panel

Barrington I'm in a blue "southern" T if you want to say hi and I can put a face to the name.

Ah, sorry — clocked your shirt in the audience, but only just read this!

About thirty minutes out from Bristol. This is the first significant, multi-leg train journey I've attempted since the before times, and it's all gone remarkably smoothly. So far...

Personally, I'd say Niemend's writing feels the closest to Wagner's, in a manner only Al Ewing has really matched.

Not sure about that... for me, Al managed to write Dredds that were unmistakably Ewing, but still felt like Dredd. It's hard to articulate, but Dredd is actually such a difficult character to get right that when a writer tries to bring their own 'stamp' to the strip, it usually involves shifting at least a few degrees off what feels right for Dredd.

What I think both Ewing and Niemand bring (brought) is a desire to get Dredd right first, then write stories around that... and that's what makes them feel Wagner-ish — the fact that Joe is generally spot on. After all, the Wagner/Grant then Wagner-solo era encompasses such a vast range of tone, mood, and even genre, it's hard to point at any story that's definitively Dredd, other than for the fact that Dredd's in it.

Yes, Jaegir's next arc called Ferox will most likely land sometime in August

The Coleby droid mentioned that he was drawing Norts just a couple of days ago, so there's definitely something in the works.

Indeed, LoEG was the only ABC strip that was creator owned, so it's the only one that Moore carried on with after his infamous exit from ABC. He willingly sold the movie rights and then became enraged when the studio seemed to cave in to a plagiarism lawsuit. Hence, no more Moore movies.

That's a little unfair. He became enraged when he was subjected to a multi-hour deposition by lawyers involved in the law suit, and then the studio caved over an addition to the screenplay that wasn't in the comics he'd actually written.

I heard a rumour Disney+ is going to continue the series with the same cast?

It's long been rumbling that Disney liked Daredevil best out of all the Netflix offerings, and the
Charlie Cox cameo in No Way Home
seems to confirm that. I wouldn't be surprised to
see him pop up in the She-Hulk series
and with
Fisk's suspiciously inconclusive off-camera 'death' in the Hawkeye series,
it would seem that there are a lot of pieces in place for an 'official' MCU version... to the extent that they've put a LOT of otherwise unnecessary work in if that wasn't the plan.

Is that the one where Dan Dare gets bummed by the Mekon?

Oh yeah. Subversive.

There was some good stuff in Morrison's Dare, specifically addressing the notion of a hero representing an Imperial ideal whose time had very much passed. Sadly, it felt like Morrison very much ran out of steam well before the end, culminating in the scene you refer to, which absolutely reeks of a writer saying "I can't be arsed with this any more."
