This is break-neck gibberish with beautiful art. I feel like I'm reading part 11 of a 12 part series. I don't have time to engage with anyone. It's absurdly dense. Zenith Phase iii (which this kind of resembles) works because we know and care about a couple of the characters. Go read 'The Magic Order' by Mark Millar and see how each character gets 3 pages to settle with the audience before the fireworks begin. I guess this might work better for people who know all the characters - are there any readers like that? I was delighted to see a certain SCREAM character. Let's have more with a slower pace. Great art & good to see Dani on the back-up strip.

I'm guessing it's the original scans that are bad, since all the more recent colour material looks fine.

Well done to everyone who made it to the finish. I've really enjoyed it especially the design, endpapers & text-pieces

Other Reviews / The Immortal Hulk #1 by Al Ewing
16 June, 2018, 03:41:56 PM
I read 2000ad every week and find it hard to get excited by other comics. I get blinded by the sheer number of variant covers, crossovers & reboots. Behind an Alex Ross cover is this horror take on the Jolly Green Giant. There's no continuity - hear as I've not read a Hulk comic before. It's bloody good though - strong art & story. It's Al Ewing but not the craziness I expected from the Zombo-king. Try it but don't flick through first. There's a couple of page turns that are to die for!

Events / Re: Lawgiver MK4

Lawgiver 4 was perfect. Lovely to hear Ian Gibson & Mick McMahon talking about 2000ad. Mick always seemed to have a long queue but my sketch of Rico in his new style was well worth the wait. Art droids Goddard, Langley, Bisley, Cornwell, Flint & all the others were generous with their time & drawing skills. I wish Rebellion had been there to hear some future news but I'd rather they reached out to the general fans who may have forgotten the prog at bigger cons. My idea of 2000ad fandom can include everyone - the biker who loves cosplay, the father reading the prog with his kids, the woman who just buys the odd tpb, even the grouch who claims 'it's worse now than in the 90s'. Thanks for all turning up in Bristol. We are all Tharg now.

I'd love to have seen the Cullen Hershey collected & it's really annoying that return of the king & Kenny Who are in the Ultimate Collection. Overall it's been a great series.

Kenny Who? I'd love to have seen Enceladus but that seems unlikely. Can't believe I'm actually at the end of a Hachette series. It's a fabled thing like the end of the rainbow!

Never phone Hachette - you'll risk your sanity. Use messenger. I've only just received 15 & 16 - I'm sure they'll sort things out eventually. The bookends were worth the wait and the Nemesis figure sold well on EBay! Remind yourself that the books are amazing value. I know the MegaCollection has a few bumps and reprint issues but in time I'm sure things will work out.

I was annoyed that they'd overlapped the 2000ad & the end of the Dredd collection. This kind of alleviates that for a month. I'm impressed that Hachette reprinted misaligned spines so readily. It's easy to get drawn into the "how dare they - I'm cancelling" melodrama. The delays have made me appreciate the well run machine of 2000ad - every Wednesday there's a prog, and it's usually way better than the majority of books in the local comic shop!

Don't knock the reprint of 80! Happy to see the spine improved!

Just subscribe to the marvel series if you don't like things finishing!
The extra ten volumes had been strong. I hope the reprinted Vol 80 does happen soon!

In the 2018 World Cup Panini sticker album you can have a sticker of yourself made up - with room in the sticker book for it. Surely when you make it to the finish line of a Hachette series they could offer a personalised book - volume 91- you choose! Junker! Maniac 5! Armoured Gideon! You decide!

So the exclusive Nemesis the Warlock figure only available with the premium subscription is now available in the 2000ad shop. It stinks.

DJBawbag,
The Dark Side of the Moon volume is 80 on the spine, it's been re-issued to join to book 81 the first 'extension' issue. Those stopping at 80 could use the original print run.
