Books & Comics / Re: Hookjaw has surfaced
03 May, 2007, 08:24:26 AM
When I had the monumental trouble with the printers, the only reason I kept going was I didn't want to let the pre-purchasers down.  It was a big learning experience.

When US/foreign buyers get it is completely down to the post.  It's sent out this week.

All (UK) buyers will get theirs by the end of the week (postie dependant).  I'm also including some extra comics to try to make up for the delay.  Sorry about that.

It is a new one.  And yeah, young Dave couldn't find him.  That's why I was so amazed he was still writing.

Books & Comics / Alan Hebden/ Carlos Pino
21 April, 2007, 09:50:12 PM
Unusually (and about time), latest Commando pocket books have started listing the writers and artists.  And who should be on there but the old stalwarts of Alan Hebden (who did some great stuff for 2000AD, Tornado, including the wondrous Angry Planet, and Starlord - and no doubt for a load of other Fleetway/DC Thomson comics that were uncredited) and Carlos Pino (of Ro-Busters, Invasion and Johnny Red fame).

Great to see they are still involved.  Wonder who else still writes/draws for Commando? Well, Ian Kennedy for a start - who drew my favourite ever piece of comic art in Ro-Busters.

Whether it's any good or not I don't think is the point (for me, loved the Black Marvel Family and Adam being a weapon of mass destruction - probably my favourite character ever) but why is a weekly comic a rip-off?

Is a quarterly a bigger or smaller rip-off?

Website and Forum / Re: Weird Firefox Bug
17 April, 2007, 08:08:11 PM
Och, this whole Opera/Firefox thing is nonsense.  They're both pretty good browsers with some differences (add-one for Firefox, functionality for Opera - if you're on dial-up, definitely Opera).

So I guess there's a few of us that go there then!

News / Re: Massimo- news?
21 April, 2007, 09:54:49 PM
Needless to say I was a big fan of Massimo but I never like to say I'm sad when someone departs.  I go more for the celebration angle.

"Actually it was from the readers poll things that people were asked to send in"

These used to be pinned up on the wall of the editors offices and woe betide any story that started falling (even though stories do have natural lulls if the characters are to develop).

I thought they came across as a bit judgemental.

LOL!

Have to agree with The Cosh.  Very worthy but absolutely nothing resembling humour anymore.

But did you see the 100 Comedians?  Jimmy Carr in the top 10 or 15??? Must be a lot of spastic haters out there (don't tell me, his bile is actually 'ironic').

Even though I like him, when you see Bill Hicks then it's followed by Harry Hill, it's like reading by the sun, then a candle.

And Andrew 'Dice' Clay?!?!?  Even though I completely disagree with their views, at least Jim Davidson and Bernard Manning can be funny.  But Clay? Repulsive and dull does not make for a top comedian.

Help! / Re: Sample Scripts
06 March, 2007, 05:17:09 PM
Anyone feel a bit limited by 'traditional' scripts - y'know, the one where the writer describes every piece of detail in advance?  Tend to leave little room for the artists imagination and a duller story.  For me, the writer should come up with brilliant ideas for the artist to develop, then the writer scripts them.  It's how Marvel, Stan Lee and John Wagner (to an extent) work, so it can't be that bad a system.

News / Re: A knighthood for John Wagner?....

annoy the hell out of Pat Mills.

I think proposing Pat for one would annoy him even more!

Imagine the headlines as he punches out her majesty, berating her on royal inheritance, whilst child soldiers are dying in Africa.

When I met Pat Mills, he was talking about Slane/Slain (sic) but did admit it should be Sloyn-i when I looked shocked (and he heard my accent - Scots by the way - which made him all the more sheepish).  I know there's enough critics on the board but I love the series. (it's Nemesis I can't stand!)

General / Re: Does Alan Moore Have A Point?....
17 February, 2007, 11:54:07 AM
I know Alan Moore was upset that the amount of money paid to Wagner & Mills did not reflect the amount of money Dredd made for the company.  Legally, IPC were correct but morally, I don't think they were. In the same way, I don't think DC were morally correct to let Jerry Siegel become a virtual pauper, given the success of his creation.

Dodgey people occassionally sell them on a disc on eBay but are quickly (and correctly) closed down by Rebellion's lawyers

As there seems to be no chance of it ever being reprinted, what's the harm? I know technically it's copyright theft but no-one loses out.

Either that or Rebellion give up any claim and let it be reprinted (again, can't see Grant letting it go, so it;s dead money).
