News / Ron Smith in Book and Magazine Collector
12 August, 2008, 12:33:40 PM
There's a massive 18 page feature about The Ronster in the current issue of Book and Magazine Collector! It has an overview of his career and a stripography/priceguide, and lots of reproductions of his work. I declare it... Zarjaz!
It's issue 298, it has a picture of Somerset Maugham on the front cover.

The great character actor Terence Rigby has died, he was in Get Carter and the wonderful Beiderbecke Affair.

He was also the Duke of New York, A-Number One! More sad news.

I can't make it unfortunately, it sounds great this year too.

I love Stir Crazy!
The bit where they put Grossberger in with them, Gene Wilder comes back to the cell and Richard Pryor doesn't say anything, he's just crying, makes me crack up every time.
And the "No Shit" scene, where at the end Gene Wilder pretends he knows karate, physical comedy at it's greatest.
Blazing Saddles is a favourite too.

Mongo only pawn in game of life...

I really like Chris Rock, Head of State and Down To Earth, while not great films, are two that I put on to cheer myself up, he just makes me laugh.
"my father was so cheap, when we went to bed he used to take the batteries out of all the clocks!"

I'm sure resident board Achiever proudhuff will be along soon with lines from the peerless Big Lebowski.

The hairdressers! the chance of Scud attack was too great to go anywhere near Aycliffe...

During the run up to the Iraq war my Mother's hairdresser told her she was worried because one of Saddam's targets for his missiles was Newton Aycliffe industrial estate near Darlington. I blame a combination of Tony Blair and The Sun. My Mother didn't go back there ever again.

I was browsing the Edge of Darkness wiki last night and it says they're about to start filming a remake starring Mel Gibson...
Say what?!

I loved it. If anything there was too much to take in, I'm going again soon as I can. I thought Heath Ledger was amazing. I've never thought of The Joker as an urban terrorist before in my life, (even when he was working for Gaddafi and dressing as an Arab back in the day!) but the characterisation in this was just brilliant. He brought the city to it's knees with a few homemade fertilizer bombs and a gang of ex mental patients. I found him genuinely scary at times! And yet... I kind of felt sorry for him too, bizarrely enough. A classic screen villain.
