iraq could have a monarchy + advisory council as a half-way house to democracy... a monarchy with advisory council can produce a fairly stable situation as long as the monarchy is not placed above the law ...

truth is people dont want democracy, they want law & order and economic prosperity..plus perhaps a bit of liberalism here and there....

if saddam hadn't invaded kuwait and instead used all that oil money to build schools,hospitals,parks..etc. he would have had lots of domestic support

if he had sucked up to the yanks he wouldn't have had been invaded at all...

AND

if he had said 'we have no wmd, mr un come in and nose around, no problem mate' the us would have had no pretext to invade

we dont have a democracy, thats just what we call it..democracy is where everyone gets to make decisions very often, we have an elected dictatorship...the pm can do what he likes UNLESS a vote of no confidence goes against him/her in the commons...
