I was once talking to Wake at a Dreddcon, and he was enthusiastically telling me about his plans for the electronux prop/replica and I suddenly noticed how nice his hair was. Film star nice. And I was so distracted looking at it that I phased out for a moment and stared before clicking back to the conversation.

I'm a bit of a traditionalist here, in that I think you do the job you're fucking paid to do- you be professional about it and don't let your personal life affect how you do it.

There has only been three times when I couldn't do my job as requested by management. The first was a legal issue, the second a matter of dignity/privacy for the client I was directly caring for, the third time I can't even describe the ludicrous nature of it without being in breach of contract. On each occasion I politley said no. The first two I recieved support over and we moved on. The third became a sticking point and almost led to my leaving the job. Sometimes you have to say 'no' because to not do would corrode the soul.

I have a different perspective on the drivers beliefs than he does but I utterly support his right not to drive the bus. It won't have been easy to speak up, especially as it's gone public. There will have been ramifications at work. But it's not a matter of being proffesional, it's slightly more important than that.

Quote from: "Matt Timson"It's worth pointing out that, if I'm taking the time to argue with you, you're probably wrong.  People could save themselves a lot of time and effort- not to mention the pain of humiliation- by embracing this simple truth.

:D

I, for one, have always taken that for granted.

Help! / Re: Letter to Tharg - 1977
02 February, 2009, 05:52:14 PM
Well as all the letters published in 1977 were from Earthlings of one sort or another you'll have to help narrow it down. If you let people know your name and what town you lived in back in 1977 I'm fairly sure someone here will be able to find it, possibly even scan it for you. But, you know, you'll have to help refine the search parameters a little.

Off Topic / Re: Got Snow?

Plenty of snow but it's not sticking around on the gorund. Cars covered though. Notlooking forwards to the commute tonight The roads up for part of the way so instead of a minute or two stroll from the bus-stop to work I'm going to have to yomp a mile or so. Going from the time the bus reachses town to the time I have to get in I'll likely have to do it at some speed, in the dark, on slippy ground. Hiking boots are prepped and ready but that means wearing them all night...

I buy from Travelling Man Leeds, which has the benefit of being part of a chain. The prices have just risen from £1.80 for a $2.99 title to £2. As long as that stays I don't have to rethink my order as the price works out at £30 everytwo months and I've budgeted for more than that. Also I don't need to drop titles, the ones I like are dropping like flies. Exterminators, Shadow Pact, Blue Beetle are all gone and Rex Mundi is nearing it's finale too.
