Books & Comics / I don't like Watchmen.

There.

I've said it.

I know it's a great piece of writing. I know it's wonderfully drawn. I appreciate it's structure, it's characters, it's focus.

But I don't like it.

It's churlish, mean-spirited, and just not my cup of tea.

Is there anyone who does like it? And I don't mean like as in 'think it's brilliant' I mean actually enjoy the narrative on it's own terms? For me I'd rather read any random sixties comic. Less well written, less well drawn? More than likely? But more fun? You bet.

Just because I agree with John Byrne doesn't make me a bad person.

I got banned from the JBF for comparing Our Host to Cnut...

Onw major rule to remember is to ask yourself the question 'Does my chosing this name make me sound like a wanker?'.

I mention this now because it's too late for some people...

Wait a month and there's another one coming, prog 1650.

And now a meat based sandwich joke...

A friend of mine reported that her mate had given his son the middle name Rawshack. Pronounced, according to him, Roarshank.

So very sad? Bollocks it is. To go through the horror of the first World War, to live through a tumultuous century but die peacefully? That's not sad? That's awe inspiringly wonderful and something to envy. A life lived well? Nowt sad about that.

What a lot of clockwork automata we have in the prog at the moment.

I was going to say just that! What with Bonehinge's minions in Sin/Dex, the automatons in Red Seas and the clockpunks in Defoe it's all a bit much and their impact is rather blunted. A case of unfortunate scheduling, no doubt.

It's not long since Dante's clockwork zombies appeared.

General / Re: Recommend me some Dredd..

I think it was published in the issues leading up to 1000.

If you like Total War you should read Traiter to his Kind. It's not Dredd but it's Wagner writing with similar power for Strontium Dog. They were published simultaneously and, you know, the prog has rarely been better.

Oh thank fuck for that.

You're not the first to accuse C.o.E. of stealing from Midwich Cuckoos, you'll not be the last. It's a bollocks comment though. Apart from them both featuring children there's nowt in common.

At the same time to read a review of something you're looking forward to is a little naive. I'm paiently awaiting Walking Dead 63. If I were to read the WD thread on the board and ruin the story it'd not be their failt for writing, but mine for reading.
