I think I might have caused some confusion by suggesting that Petewold was almost exactly the same as scojo. Which isn't quite the same thing, and my name isn't Logan, but in the heat of asilly argument these wires often get crossed.

BTW, though I don't particularly agree with Logan on this (un fact far from it) I think your response to him is (a) rude (b) childish (c) part of some silly grudge and (d) a derail. Not exactly an example of good messageboard behaviour.

Books & Comics / Re: reading books

Ray Bradbury's recntly been claiming that Farenheit 451*, despite it's prominent book burning carried out by jackbooted thugs, isn't actually about censorship  instead it's about his fear that people will loose interest in books and become intellectually stunted TV watching zombies.

That's bollocks of course - it is about censorship, and Bradburys just suffering from Grumpy Old Writer Disease - But this thread drives home what ahorrifying fate humanity turning into an apathetic book-avoiding mob woud be.

* It's okay - You can watch it as a movie. No, not the Michael Moore one.

I'd think of reading a longer non-fiction books as "reading", where as reading reference books is "looking stuff up".

I actually quite like the Clooney/Sodenburgh Solaris. I dunno if I would say it's better, but given the choice of watching either of them again that's the one I'd pick.

(the book, though, is better still)

So the bomb turns the enemy gay and then, because they are gay, they drop everything and start shagging?

I think these military types may have a rather alarmist and provincial view of whtat the whole "gay" thing actually means.

Marriage terrified me... having a kid terrified me... but you know what? They're the bestest thing in the world ever and I wouldn't give them up for anything.
