Film & TV / Re: Robo-Hunter Film

Ted Danson? Genius!

I thought Robots (the animated film) was Robo-Hunter without the Hunter. A very Gibsonesque feel to a lot of the robots. Throwing Sam Slade into that kind of thing would be great. Will Smith seems to have filled the role somewhat in I, Robot too, so any pitch for it would sound a bit samey. Not that that's ever stopped them.

Cheech Marin for Stogie, Cameron Diaz for Cutie and I have no idea what Hoagy should sound like.

Oh yeah, Aliens wasn't it. Erm, Greedo, the first time.

The huge plant monsters in Doctor Who and the Brain of Mobius creature.

Triffids for sure. Intelligent walking killer plants, aaargh.

Definitely NOT the Tripods.

Now only humans scare me. Speaking as an encephalopod.

Hmm, Daleks yes I'd think, till Tom sorted them out. Davros was very creepy.

The cloth frog that was in the kids programme I can never remember the name of. It appeared really big in the screen by virtue of early video effects and that was just crazy. Hmm, might have evoked a few repressed fears there with that one.

And no, it wasn't Gabriel.

Used to play the violin and piano many moons ago. Nasty screechy resin dust up yer nose thing. Piano was ok but gave it up. Toyed with guitar and bass to not much effect over the years. I tend to annoy people by trying to play things I don't know. Plays the first few intro bars of Metallica, Pink Floyd, LedZep quite well kind of guy. You all know the type.

Brief singing career, War Pigs in the local bar with a mate's band. Took much gin beforehand to gain courage, then forgot words in second verse :o) Blundered on with first verse ending again to as not to seem completely inept lol. Decided it was confusing cos God is mentioned twice in the second verse. Didn't seem right, brain kicked in, lost track.

I hope never to be drunk in the presence of a karaoke machine.

Cool, that's The Black Hole!

Can't remember the robot's name, but Sharp Shooting's his game! :o)

Excellent film, especially the incomprehensible and bizarre ending.

Film & TV / Re: The Wire Season 3

"best written/acted TV show possibly in the history of telly"

I thoroughly agree. Far better than the endless CSI: Somewhere clones.

It's been FX for ages now though, but as you say, Season 3 has just started.

Season 4 starts this autumn (sorry, fall) I think. On HBO that is.

The police here and in a lot of places across Britain I'm sure, have been organising 'midnight football' in a bid to keep kids off the streets, doing something other than nicking cars and beating up old ladies etc.

So what if the Judges took this on and had special 'Midnight Aeroball' for the juves? Giant could pass on a few tips I'm sure. Dunno how exciting that would be, but I'm sure there could be some story around it. Juves form bond with Judge Coach, Coach gets bumped off, then juves go out to avenge him using techniques learned from training, complete with poignant moment at end about juves becoming good citizens etc.

I reckon it'd be great :o)

Also, the CSI stylee Judge in the current story covers that. I guess the suggestion was a spin-off with him. Meeeeeeh, nah. Too trendy, as said above.

Surely Rutger Hauer! Hmm, maybe too old.

Totally agree that Sean Pertwee should have been Constantine. Hopefully they won't make him a yank and change his name so Harry Vegas or something.

Sean Bean? Meeeeeeeeeh, dunno, never looks confident enough. Always the flawed almost good guy. Harry needs someone utterly confident looking, so Daniel Craig would be superb, although as has been said, probably not going to happen with Bond n' all.

Brad Pitt would be cool, but perhaps too cool. So Dante for him then :o)
