As I understand it, Mr Carter receives scans of the covers anything upto 3 weeks in advance.  Although there is no immediate link to these, they are stored as part of the site.  By selecting the current prog-cover image and altering the appropriate URL to accomodate, you can occassionally look into the future!

Expecting contributor-copies this morning.  Even skipped the usual "I'm-awake-early-which-is-cool-because-it-means-I-can-go-back-to-sleep-again" ritual (come on, we all do it) and got up.

Nowt.  And Kat Deely doesn't do it for me anymore.

Saturdays have never seemed so bleak.

The Crabs thing was fantastic...  I read the sequel before the first one, and the enduring memory is of a naked bird having her.... ah.... how to put it?.... 'pubic topiary' ripped out by an inquisitive crab.  Some sort of weird word-association gag there, perhaps?  Crabs, pubes, etc etc....    Eeew..

I've also got a Graphic Novel of James Herbert's 'THE CITY', which is just FANTASTIC.  Well, I say fantastic - the dialogue is kind of silly ("ROAST IN HELL, YOU SICK OBSCENITY!") and there's not much of a story, but the art is fantastic.  Anyone heard of 'Ian Miller'?  If so I want to meet him.  It's all post-apocalyptic and twisted, with rats ruling the roost, the whole shebang.  Fab stuff.

Durham Red is back in action in the Prog soon, so you'd probably end up contradicting something 'canon'.  (I hate that phrase).

Go with the other one.

I suspect a lot of tales in the Meg would read a *lot* better if you go back and digest them in one sitting.  Remember that with the weekly format you're digesting, say, 6 pages per week.  That seems about right, and matches more-or-less the US standard of 22-26 pages a month.

In the meg we're looking at 6-10 pages of story per month.  The story could be blindingly fabulous, but by the time the next issues rolls round it's lost some of its potency, maybe even readers have forgotten what's happened.

I know, for example, that 'Family' and the Devlin Waugh tale demonstrate their fabulous pacing with FAR FAR more efficacy if you chomp it down all at once, rather than bit-by-bit.

Just my torts, like.

Ah..  Similar, but not the same.  I wasn't thinking of it when I wrote that line, but I expect it was one of those subconscious influenza thingies.  I believe the PF line is something like:

"...Mr soon to be living the rest of his short-ass life in agonising pain rapist, here.."

[geek?  Where?]

I think she first showed up in 'Mad City', that one with the Chris Evans lookalike...

Theeeen.... I seem to recall one Alex Ronald episode where Homer took up peeping, and another at or around christmas time where they murdered their way through a drunken crimbo-do.

Replying to Gary's message...

Not sure about that...  I can remember that crazy Columbian guy pretty clearly - running round with a pair of Uzis shouting "El escorpio is reeeeeeaaaaadddy!!", and other such comedy spanish japery, and I don't think it was Mr Leong.

He also says something like "Sindale, sindale!"... but I have absolutely no idea what that means.  Any ideas, spanish-speakers?

You've got to wonder at the mentality of Van Damme...  "Oh, wow!  A*nother* action-heavy film without any particularly original ideas or set pieces.  This one'll take me back to the top for SURE!"...

Having said that, I see from the new 'Empire' he's been pencilled in to be in the new filmic 'Swan Lake'....

Can't say I've bought *too* far into the outrage because, as you've said, if you don't like something you can ignore it.

HAving said that, when visiting the board and discovering that the first 10 threads are *all* related in some way or another to the BB thing, it makes me wonder at the number of innocent 2000AD fans who, stopping-in for a casual glance at the boards, think "aw, forget it" and don't bother.

There are also (apparently) those who digest all the board's content as a stream of emails.  As you said too much on-topicness makes for a boring time, but equally too much off-topicness can leave people who wade through *everything* questioning their involvement with the community.

I have absolutely no problem with off-topicness, and tend to read more threads relating to something random than to on-topic stuff.  *But*, there comes a point when, if the see-saw topples too far in one direction, people are going to get arsey.

That's how I'd rationalise it, anyhoo.
