Brilliant! Having drawn the strip, it was fascinating to read your original thought processes behind it - and rather marvellous that, with very little discussion between each other at any point, we seemed to independently arrive at uncannily similar ideas for so many aspects of the strip.

Yeah, at the risk of this turning into a 'get a room!'-style mutual appreciation society, I have to agree – so much of the story was eerily exactly as I'd envisaged it, and where it diverged, it undoubtedly did so for the better. Credit to Owen for teaming us up, methinks: he's a darn good judge of script-to-artist pairings.

Think that's from Straczynski's Earth One OGN, which is a sort of separate sideline entirely from the relaunch. That said though, I don't get the impression the DCNU is aimed at a younger audience, though they are de-aging a lot of the heroes. With Geoff Johns so prominent, I'd expect the usual DC mixture of fan-pleasing references and gleeful sadism for many of the titles.

Always great to see your stuff, Mark, very symbolic piece, I'm sure, though retaining the loopy edge we've come to expect!

Didn't realise they were so far behind on collecting DD. I hope this run gets the commercial success it deserves, it's looking like such a great and sorely-needed take on the character. Have a sneaking suspicion it's going to be a critical darling but won't set the sales charts on fire though.

So, anyone picked up #1 of the Daredevil relaunch by Waid, Rivera and Martin? This has to be the most gorgeous-looking Marvel comic currently out there – the artwork is absolutely sublime, and a perfect fit for a story in which Waid gives us a very new take on Daredevil. Some are saying that it's a Daredevil we haven't seen in 30-40 years, but that's not strictly true – all the successive layers of tragedy are still part of Matt Murdock's background, he's just decided to pretend otherwise. The end result seems to be a carefree and yet clearly in-denial version of the character. Brilliant stuff, I'm a big fan of Mark Waid anyway, but this looks like being the best thing Marvel have had on the stands for ages.

"No prison can hold him now" - brilliant. Fingers crossed for an 'In the Mouth of Madness' section.

I agree - this one was tricky to pick a final three from. Wish I'd gotten off my arse and written the preposterous Hookjaw vs. Shako mash-up I was envisaging.
