In keeping with the recent play-by-play detailing of what writers are up to, I'm going to go stick on my old Autopsy vinyl for inspiration. Or maybe 'Reek of Putrefaction'. Must... think self... into brain of Chris Reifert.

Sounds like fun... I'm sure I could give this a bash (in the face, with a hammer.)

No, that was Fonzo Bongo at the end of 'The Pit'. Which happens after 'Bad Frendz' anyway.

In a really weird way, this feels a bit like the prototype for Sinister / Dexter. Not that the plots / premise are remotely similar, but if I recall, this strip is the source of 'funt' and a few other Sin / Dex terms, and it has the same kind of gleefully amoral, high octane madness of the early Sin / Dex stories (until Dan started trying to convince us of the moral necessity of gunsharks.)

EDIT: Except now that I check, it seems it wasn't co-written by Dan Abnett at all - I thought it was him and Steve White. Talking out of my arse then.

Interestingly, I don't mind Alien Resurrection at all because that one really is a blank slate - it doesn't feature any of the previous characters (the clone is a different character from Ripley, and therefore doesn't bother me) and seems remarkably comic book-y in feel - I agree it is stylised and OTT, but I find that quite enjoyable. As the title implies, it's a new start, so I don't mind a new aesthetic. For me, the damage is already done by that stage, and whatever comes after 'Alien 3' can only be an improvement (and can't ruin 'Aliens' any further.)

I have a huge soft spot for alien 3, and don't really understand why it gets such a hard time.

The answer is in the first five minutes - the most callous evisceration of the previous film anyone could possibly imagine. It'd be like if they did a sequel to 'It's A Wonderful Life' and George Bailey went on a killing spree with a road-drill. I hate 'Alien 3' unreservedly - it's my least favourite film of all time. (Objectively, of course, I am aware that there's lots of stylish direction and whatnot, but I cannot forgive its crimes against the characters of 'Aliens'.)

'The Big Itch' is surely an all-time classic - 'I've got them. I'm just not scratching' is one of Dredd's greatest lines bar none, and the whole thing's just brilliant from start to finish. And whilst 'Alien Zoo' is really just an excuse for Bolland to draw big monsters - what more could you want? The Wurlitz Wooflebeast and the Duck-billed Yabba-dabba maintain a firm place in my affections.

Yeah, individual progs are interesting, but it might be more interesting to do a particular storyline within a series, or even a whole series as Colin suggests. The problem with doing an old prog might be that you can't rely on the readership having access to or remembering the specific prog in question - obviously with the regular podcast, that's not a problem 'cos it's contemporary. Mind you, the guys that do the House to Astonish podcast get a lot of mileage out of discussing obscure characters in their 'Official Handbook of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe' section... maybe something in that vein (not a direct lift, but something like 'A Rummage In Tharg's Drawers' where people discuss / praise / reimagine / ridicule some of the dustier contents of the Mighty One's oeuvre.)

I love reading the responses to threads like this. Not that I need to be reminded that writers are whores, mind.

C'mon locusts... aren't you putting out this time? ;)

Right, like the whore I am, I came up with an idea during my morning jog. I tried to sound above it all, but I'm nothing more than a dirty whore like the rest of you.
The first step is admission.

The second is to assume the position.

(Man, those could be song lyrics...)

A wave of terrible inspiration has washed over me, and lunatic concepts for this now besiege my brain. Be afraid...  ;)

Woo-hoo, I'm up for a second bout of scripting for this mad glorious escapade! Shame I can't revisit last year's characters (Bosie's dialogue was a lot of fun to write), but I'm sure I can come up with something suitably unhinged.

Yeah, that's the first thing that came to my mind. Steve Sampson artwork... there's a page from it here, maybe that will ring some bells (it's not my page, I should point out.)

Actually, the one I forgot about is the original Alone In The Dark. I play that one through about once a year, just because I enjoy the story and the ambience. It's like returning to a dog-eared, well-thumbed favourite tome. Oh, and Resident Evil 4 - same reason.
