Well thanks to some clever techno-wizardry I've upped the download rate to 5KB A SECOND! It's at 99% now so it should be done by August. 2019.

Right.

Does this thing download automatically or what?

It says its 97% downloaded. It's been saying that for almost two hours.

It wont run in offline mode but if I click on "Launch" while online I get to see the loading screen. Then it hangs.

Is any further hand-holding possible?

Help! / Steam? How? Wh... Wha...?
20 July, 2006, 03:08:42 AM
I bought Half-life 2.

I need to use steam to run it.

I installed Steam.

I installed HL2.

I updated Steam online.

It told me it was going to to install HL2. Again. It implied I would need to go online whenever I wanted to play HL2. I have dial up so I REALLY hope that isn't true.

This made me confused and upset.

Can anyone explain this Steam thing to me?

I'm off to watch HL2 install. On dial up.

I've pirated ten ton of software in my time (mostly due to financial problems, which I know is not an excuse) but never any films. I dont mind paying a little extra for picture quality etc.

However.

Every single time I load up a DVD only to receive an anti-piracy message (and a little film to boot) I actually feel like getting a pirated DVD just to spite the assholes who think I would rather see their irritating warning messages than my film.

Well I liked it. Some bits were crap but for surreal comedy you've got nowhere else to look. Nothing spectacular, but watchable. Then again, I didn't like The Office or (ugh) Little Britain so you may not agree with me.

I loved it. I was with someone who felt a bit let down and when he made his case I felt everything he said made perfect sense but I still liked the film. Davy Jones was a great villain with even a little depth to his character. The jokes were funny, the action was exciting and there were PIRATES! IN THE FILM!

I never really liked this series but I will say that the rock music episode was pretty creepy and clever. Anyone remember it?

Broken Sword is out on budget and has a very engaging storyline to do with the Knights Templar.

Deus Ex is good too.

Day of the tentacle...

Chrono trigger...

Blade Runner is a very good example of storytelling in games too. It deals with complex concepts that would you look really cool and smart if you talked about them. Bitchin' game too.

Prog / Re: 1495 - R.I.P. V.C.s?
09 July, 2006, 12:39:02 AM
Cover: OK. 5/10

Droid Life: OK. 6/10

Dredd This was OK. 5/10

Red Seas: God's honest truth I thought this was OK. 5/10

The V.C.s: Ah! The cycle is broken! This was crap. A crap ending to a crap series. You could have removed all the other books and just had this one and not missed anything. Then you could have removed this one and all would be well. Pure. Crap. 2/10

London Falling: Great mini-series! I thought Si was going to blow the ending but the twist was really brilliant and elevated the whole thing well above "OK".

Tharg also reminded me of Roadkill and the Scrap. Two of my all-time favourite thrills. More one-offs Tharg! What? Next prog?

Ok.

Prog / Re: Prog 1494 - In Dangerous Hands...

Cover was good. Thought it was Staples.

Dredd: John Smith's written some awful shite but this isn't like that. I didn't like the whole "hand of Orlok" thing because I sont like it when other droids mess woth Wagners continuity. Apart from that, this was alright. Dredd was a little out of character at the end but I'm willing to let that slide.

Didn't yer man get over the death of his family very quick though?

4/10

Red Seas: Oh, the thing's are happening. This is pretty fun but I was hoping there'd be a better structure than "Quick over here! Look at that! Quick over there! Look at this!". Yeowells art has gotten better.

6/10

VC's: Wow. Still shit. Unlike many I have no real issue with the art, but the plot is DULL. Awful, awful story.

2/10

Terror Tale: No real twist but well-written. A bit of effort went into the art too. I like the fact that there's less CG effect crap in it than there usually is.

5/10

London Falling: THIS is the kind of story I like. Original, daring and entertaining. Best of all, plenty of action and no unnecessary plot tangles. In addition, the art is niiiice. Best story in the prog by miles.

8/10

To sum up: I hate the VC's. Only John Wagner can write Dredd. Everyone else is rubbish at it. Yes, even him.

Love, Jared.
