First things first, if you are really desperate you should do a system restore. Click Start, Help and Support, System Restore (for XP anyway). Then follow the steps, and choose a restore point that is before the virus manifested itself.

Preferably choose one as far back as you can, just to be safe. There is a slim chance this may undo some of the nasty changes caused by the Malware.

Download HihackThis. Install it. Run a scan and ask for a LogFile.

Copy the text that appears in Notepad and paste it into the textbook on this webpage. Anything that is highlighted as nasty, probably is.

If you want to get rid of an obvious offender, tick the box next to it and press the "Fix Selected" button. USE WITH CAUTION. Only delete something if you're CERTAIN it's bad, otherwise you may seriously harm your computer.


Download AVG AntiVirus (free version) and install it. Scan your computer and get rid of any nasties it finds. As far as I'm concerned, AVG is at least as good as McAfee and all the rest, plus it's free.


You may also want to try http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php, or it's predecessor RogueRemover.


If you don't have a firewall, download ZoneAlarm posthaste. A good anti-virus program may get rid of a virus, but a firewall will stop one from getting in in the first place.
