Film & TV / Flyboys:" ACHTUNG DER FLIEGEN!"
04 June, 2007, 05:24:39 PM
Well I saw Flyboys at the weekend , it flopped in America and I can see why , it doesn't know who it's aimed at.....until now, this is the closest thing I have ever seen to an issue of Battle or Commando circa 1975 on screen.
List of Stereotypes
Battle hardened Commander with sensitive soul :Check
Reckless Farmboy who becomes best pilot in squadron :Check
Lovable Frenchman played by Jean reno:Check
Helpless French Girl in peril: check
Coward who redeems himself:check
Richman and black man who learn to look past colour and see the man inside:Check
Evil German WHO FLIES A BLACK TRIPLANE and guns down fliers even when their helpless:Check
Noble German Who  looks on in disdain:Check
Throw in a zepplin attack that you can't help humming the star wars theme to , my friend started saying "Stay on target!" and you have one of the most cliche ridden movies ever....but...if you did read british war comics of the Seventies and eighties you will love this film and they do throw in some surprises , the dogfight speeds are realistic , the aircraft spot on , in one scene the germans attack using a "Goliath" bomber , my wife laughed at the design until I told her it was a real aircraft , the german equipment down to captured british tanks in 1918 are spot on and then to top it off it has a surprisingly downbeat ending for such a boys own adventure.
As we left the Cinema My friend (Who is an action nut) declared that it has now replaced Top Gun as his favourite cliche ridden film about flying , hell it even has a German pilot scream "Aieeeeee!".. silly  oh so very silly but a fun film which is more than can be said about some of the blockbusters this summer.

05 October, 2006, 07:28:58 PM
Ok I know I asked a month or two ago but there was no clear answer at the time , what Books will be in the first volume of the complete Nemesis , I see Talbots name is on the cover so can I assume the gothic empire saga is included and the return of the ABC Warriors? cause if it is I'll be preordering asap.

alright I ordered my Judge Dredd complete case files vol 4  in may from play.com and I paid for it in advance  I know the release date was pushed back but Three months after ordering it is a bit ridiculous, I went to the 2000ad online shop and its being advertised but when you go to order it , it says currently not in stock so has it been released and if not why advertise it?

I saw that rebellion are going to do the same with Nemesis reprints that they are doing with the complete Dredd so a quick question , how many Books will be in the First collection , I already have the Titan reprint of the first 2 books but I am wondering will it be collected up to vol 4 and the gothic empire, Just wondering as I consider the ending of book 4 as the true end of Nemesis(after that it just became silly!Like Rogue trooper on horst)

General / The Original V.C's
05 July, 2006, 04:28:09 AM
Ok I for one did not like the New V.C'S  and am personally glad its over , what I would like to know is this , Is there a chance of an ee reprint of the Original V.C's (fer gods sake you reprinted Ant Wars!!!)to let newer readers see what the original(and still the best) looked like , I know it hasn't been reprinted bt 2000 ad in over Eighteen years!  so surely its time , Do other Members of the forum think the same?I believe it deserves ro be seen again.

And if Rebellion doesn't, does anyone know whether there were american reprints ever published or if its possible to get the titan collections?

Late last year I posted an idea of what the extreme edition could print next , it turned into quite the debate with everyone giving their two cents worth and was really enjoyable to read but I remember writng one thing "as long as they don't print Bad City Blue again " and what do you guys do ? print the bloody thing! now I know you're also reprinting silo (a bizzare little tale from 1990)but BAD CITY BLUE? (the clue to the ending is in the title , thats right in 1986 2000ad printed what I can only call the worlds longest running BAD  pun)so I think I've figured it out if i say I don't want it you're going to do it ok here goes "gosh I really wouldn't want a contract writing for 2000ad!"there I said it all I gotta do now  is sit back and wait.

General / 2000ad Extreme/Future Collections?
30 December, 2005, 07:31:08 AM
It was brilliant to see the full run of the Harlem Heroes after so many years , a good choice particularly after the Dire Meltdown Man but the question is What Next? I for one would love to read its bloody sequel Inferno and what about the original V.C.s , surely there are those out there who would love to read again the story of how the War began for Smith? However there is one story I am begging you  to see Reprinted and its not even a 2000 AD Story , INVASION 1984 , I know it got a none too favourable look back from its own writer in your Battle Series but I think he was being too harsh on himself because as a kid in the 1980's this was  to me one of the finest stories to grace the pages of Battle capturing the idea of alien invasion far better than the jingoism of Independence day or spritual faith of Signs, it captured the essence of a brutal struggle to survive at all costs against  a superior enemy resulting in an ending with the shock value equal to any John Wyndham classic, So please , please consider reprinting what I consider a lost classic for a new generation of readers.
