I don't care what none of you say. With my super-breathing-underwater power, I will dive below the ocean waves & begin my own Exiled-Exilewood community; & all my begotten legacy will be born with super-strong turtle shells, which we shall harvest & sell as decorative turtle-shell stuff for guitar pick-guards and the like; and we will grow rich & with our super-turtle long-life, we shall wait & plot & brood, like super-turtle-exile-aquapeopleturtles, until all of you fancypants ubermensch have grown fat & lazy in your stupid Shangri-la, Xanadu, Kubla Khan Pleasuredomes. Then we shall rise up & create a new turtle-order, of, um, turtle...things...and...stuff...

Help! / Re: Old Dr Who comics wanted
16 March, 2011, 08:45:27 PM
I used to (still do, I guess) love Dr Who & used to get the comics etc.. I remember getting one & finding McMahon on art duties - a cyberman in a space junkyard - wonderful stuff! Wish I still had it. I think it also had a Steve Dillion strip about a Dalek hunter.

The 1985 annual is my personal favourite. Great original material - Belardinelli on Slaine, Gibson on Dredd & Alan Moore & Steve Dillon on ABC Warriors. Cool features - interviews with Belardinelli & Ukko (!) and a page-by-page breakdown of his own art by Gibson. Most of the re-print material seems to be from Starlord - Strontium Dog & Future shocks, or Daily Star & I hadn't read them before, plus you get that truly mind-blowing McMahon Slaine picture, O'Neil's great contents page & another McMahon on the cover. Pure class!

There's a good chance I might have that Killing Joke off you.

I thought that was Dave too, but then I swear the presenter calls him 'Steve'?

Prog / Re: Prog 1724 : FLESH IS BACK!

Fantastic Prog. A lovely wrap-around cover.

Dredd was great - I'm really enjoying this story - I suppose the plot has been moving slower than a fattie in a clapped out Foord Roadster, but the writing has been sharp & very funny in places. Don Mumbletti was a nice touch & Higgins' art has been outstanding throughout.

Shakara continues to be the perfect 2000AD strip. Loving the sheer madness of it all.

Flesh was a real treat. Pat does this sort of thing so well & I thought the art was superb.

The Time Twister is an absolute gem - I think that's Dyer's best work to date.

Kingdom, like Shakara, is just as fantastic as it always is.

Couldn't pick a top-thrill, this prog doesn't put a foot wrong.

I'm finding this whole thread quite gurling, to be honest.

I'm not so sure about that SBT. In an attempt to settle the matter by empirical data, I stood outside my flat & waited for the first member of 'Joe Public' to amble by - when the said vaguely-humanoid creature appeared, I thrust my copy of the latest prog in his face & inquired whether he deemed it 'cartoony' or 'realistic'. Sadly, his response (which shall not be repeated here) was less than conclusive.

I will say this though - I've always found that it was the work of Brother O'Neil that was the most likely to enrage parents.

Be honest folks, that's what I sound like when I'm defending Phantom Menace, isn't it?  I don't pick and scratch at my head and face incessantly while I do it, but basically I'm that guy.

Yes, I think Mr Hat-on-backwards-Stallone-fan had more than just Weetabix for his breakfast!

Nah, it's the people with the song writing credit who make the money, more than the pretty boy pop star who actually sings it.

Very true.

I was only having a laugh - I know, being a songwriter myself!

I Still remember my first PRS songwriter's payment for a TV show was more than ten times the amount we got paid as a band for performing it. (then doubled when it was repeated  ;) )

There's some pretty good stuff in the '79 Annual I think - first off it's got a cracking O'Neil cover, I quite like the 'Future-Shock' type stories - some nice Ewins art there, and the Dredd is excellent blinding!

For my money, the '80 annual is the worst of the lot.
