Has anyone been watching this? I've only seen the first two episodes, and it's bloody great. Scorcese shoots it gorgeously, it looks like a moving Norman Rockwell painting. The pacing is spot on, and although Steve Buscemi gets head billing, there's a whole ensemble of interesting characters, and so far, there haven't been any weak links in the cast (although Kelly Macdonalds Irish accent slips a wee bit some times)

Went to see The Mechanic tonight. I'm a sucker for dumb action movies, it was good but....half a bleedin hour of trailers and ads. Do these people think I've nothing better to do with my life? This is why people are illegally downloading your movies, Hollywood, because they can watch the movie when they want to, not half a bleedin hour after they've pressed play.

*Edit* I should point out that, other than Guiness, I can't remember any other products they spent millions advertising. Seriously, the reason T.V ads don't go on half an hour is because they know people will change the channel, the reason cinema ads shouldn't go on half an hour is because they all just blur together.

**Edit**Maybe half an hour was an exaggeration, maybe it was more like 28 minutes

The Death Race remake cost forty-five million?
Roger Corman must be spinning in his grave. I wish he was making this Dredd movie, I've said it many times before, Hollywood needs another director like him. He made the original Little Shop of Horrors in 3 days on a bet. If he was directing this here Dredd film it would be in the cinemas by now and we'd all be talking about how cheesey yet awesome it was.

I'm really disappointed that the uniform doesn't feature moulded rubber nipples

Its another year before the films out, it would be silly to waste money on P.R now. Somehow I don't think the powers that be would be too keen to pander to an internet forum.

I'm undecided about this, maybe it's a bad angle, but it's not really a design classic is it?

Actually, the advice I've been given (by an actual Art Droid) is that lesser is better. I think a bit more description is okay in this case (i.e. state what the room is for example) but I think it's okay to leave the artist to do what they think. Nothing wrong with describing a couple of items and detail (peeling wallpaper as IAS says, etc).

Don't take my word for it. I've written a few scripts but I haven't actually submitted anything yet.

I've read that Alan Moore lays out his scripts in incredible detail, the article I was reading mentioned something about Moore's scripts describing the motivation of the grafitti artist who had scrawled a piece of grafitti on a wall in the background of one of his panels, he then (apparently) went on to describe how faded said grafitti was and what had caused it to fade. I can't remember where I read that, it could be a cunning ruse by my brain to make me look like I talk nonsense, my point is, I don't think there is a right or wrong way to do it. Just go with whatever works.

That's not useful at all actually, just ignore me

I think the biggest problem with the Dave specials, was that in the build up to their screening, they showed the top ten best ever episodes, which reminded ye that on peak form, Red Dwarf was both one of the best comedies ever, and one of the best sci-fi shows ever. Set the bar too high for the new episodes shown after.

What would you like to see in an ABC Warriors game?
For me, it would be a squad based shooter, probably third person, with a good story.

Definitely third person. Ye want to be able to see bad ass lookin robots tearin shit up. A squad based shooter is the best, most obvious choice, with massive enemy hordes for big jobs. But who would your 7 be?

Here's mine:
Hammerstein, obviously. Default character, good all round balance of skills.

Joe Pineapples
. Every shooter game needs a sniper. It would be great to have a level where ye have to give someone a frontal lobotomy from high orbit.

Blackblood. Would be good for infiltration/stealth missions. I'd love a game mechanic where ye can drag enemies off the battlefield to 'extract information'.

Dethlock.Would probably have to be highly specialised, and offer the most different gameplay experience to the other characters, what with him being magic and whatnot. Some sort of possesion game mechanic would be fun.

Mongrol. Mongrol smush. Big melee focus.

Mekquake in killdozer mode. Sort of like vehicular support. It would be fun if you got more points from taking out weaker targets.

And finally...RO-JAWS. Would function as the squad's medic. Wouldn't have any weapons as such, instead he can fling faeces. Forces enemies to retreat from sheer disgust

Books & Comics / Re: Whats everyone reading?

Finally got round to reading Alan Moore's Swamp Thing Saga. Got the first two volumes for Christmas, now I'm annoyed I didn't read them earlier. Crackin stuff. I knew it would be, but bloody hell, I enjoyed it even more than I thought possible.
The man weaves sci-fi, body horror and mythology together seamlessly, and as a result, ye care about what happens to this inhuman lump of sentient cellulose.
The few criticisms I could level at it are nit-picky and not really worth mentioning.

Now I'm going back to the present my dad got me. A job lot of 73 pulp fiction books he got for me from ebay. Mostly Sci-Fi and Horror stuff. The blurbs on these things alone are priceless, words like 'incredible','astounding' and 'fantastic' are used in abundance. I think I'll read 'The Glory Trap' now, sounds dirty

Is there a thread here for discussing the merits of C.G.I?
