General / Re: Blog promotion!

I'm scratch-building a Judge costume for a Haloween pub-crawl and am blogging about it here:

Although, I do tend to post any other Dredd-related stuff there too on days when I've done nothing new on my cosplay build.  Actually it was Kev Lev of this very board that made me aware of the 2000ad forum after seeing my tumblr blog - so cheers, Kev!

General / Re: The first Dredd story you remember reading?

I started reading 2000ad at Prog 1 but, being only 7 years old at the time, tended to skip over the Judge Dredd strip from Prog 2 onward because the look of the character didn't appeal to me.

I find it hard to beleive now that I'd dismiss Dredd and MUCH prefer Bill Savage and his violent story, but I was a Battle Picture Weekly reader at the time, so maybe that explains it a little; there was something of Bill's exploits that was familiar whereas Dredd's world was very new and too weird.

Plus - to my very young eyes back then Judge Dredd just looked a little too effeminate; his full and girlish lips and his Dame Edna Everage-style visor were just too far from left-feild for me to get!

The first Dredd strip to catch my eye was in Prog 9 - it was Ron Turner's artistic debut on the strip (I recognised his style from his work on Dalek comic strips of the time) and there was something about his art that was more easy-on-the-eye, and Dredd looked somewhat tougher, so that warmed me to Dredd and I actually bothered reading it...

...and then rushed to the cupboard to dig out the back-progs to read Dredd from the beginning because I suddenly realised I had been missing out!

     Haven't stopped reading since.

Welcome to the board / G'morning, all!
14 September, 2010, 12:05:10 PM
Hi everybody -

I'm new to this board, but not new to 2000ad; I've been a reader since Prog 1.  I've never really felt the need to be a member of any sort of online community before, but when a fellow member of this board pointed me in this direction I knew this was the place for me!
Looks like a great web community here, I hope I can contribute stuff on interest for you all from time to time.

     Peace.
