Not much of a killer robot? He took out a tyrannousaur in one go, smothering it in boiling metal, he did.

Blimey! When you think about it, Universal Soldier is Mr. Ben. Spot on.

Coming soon, a Welsh steampunk extravaganza involving a robot train with A.I.

Universal Soldier's a tricky one. I reckon it could be only be reinvented if it was done like something from Valiant. There's something about a guy who can become a different historical warrior every week that sounds inherently old fashioned and contrived. Yet the potential for variety is a godsend, at least artistically. It would have made a great flagship strip for Tornado, which was loosely themed on warriors throughout history.

The boardroom intrigue stuff jarred badly with the premise, too. Felt too 'eighties' in comparison. Yet the guy being a total coward at the mercy of corporate bastards was a neat and logical twist to the whole thing. If there was potential, it sure got wasted big time. I think most folks have mercifully blanked the one where he organises the defence of a settlement from punky barbarians.

Nah, think we've lost the patient, gentlemen :(

I'd go for Page 2. Can't be page 4, Jock can spell.

Ooh, I'm going to Hell for that.

Another thing about ABC's, it's recreated the 'next week's robot' buzz from yesteryear.

The standouts this week were Caballistics and ABC's. Great stuff that makes you itch for next weeks episodes. And both B&W, go figure.

Minor gripes, the "frigid bitch" and "turning tricks" comments came off like Mark Millar, nasty and unnecessary. The colouring on Interceptor looks like it's smothering some lovely art. Shame.

Timequake rocked

Nah, I was taking the piss. Suppose it's enjoyable hokum in hindsight. "What are you going to do then, skinhead? Shatter me eardrums with yer piano?" etc.

Gibson's in it and getting $25 mil. The movie's release was announced as 23rd July 2004, with filming starting between June and Sept this year. That's only scuttlebutt, mind.

No idea what McCarthy's involvement has been of late. Said he was co-writing the script with George Miller at one point, as well as designing. But that was a few years ago.

Oh, well. At least Thunderdome's on telly this week.

What's he up to these days?

He's done a few films, take a look at the ships and costumes in Coneheads next time it's on the telly. Pure McCarthy.

Last I heard he was heavily involved in designing his dream project, Mad Max 4 - Fury Road.
