Like the Crystal Skull.

Spassky, the improbably hard lady-Sov-judge from Crusade, beats him for silliness.

The juve from It Pays To Be Mental gets my vote. Him and his shrink are ideal for a Whatever Happened To.

Any advance on Prog 127?

This came up before I think, and yeah, that was the first female, Judge Kelly IIRC.

Who bets that during the course of this story, she will come across her Mother's murderer and be in a position to take him down?

Wasn't that flashback a bit Frank Miller-ish?

I was thinking that the mother's killer might be a rogue Wally Squad judge. I dunno, someone who got too wrapped up in their cover, department hushed it up, kind of thing.

Yeah, it's the same David Roach who drew Anderson and Purity Brown's stories.

Plenty to chew over this week, not least spotting the bits that'll have a few up in arms, but an enjoyable prog all round.

Don uggie was actually KILLED in a Dredd tale

Yup, in the 83 2000AD annual, and his son turns up in Prog 1189 IIRC.

so they could be used as slave workers

That's misleading IMHO, sounds more like Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes (which does have apes as slaves and alludes to things like the Watts riots.) I don't remember the apes being servants in any Dredd stories, unless the cybernetic helper-monkey in Prog 647 counts.

In Dredd the story simply goes... only zoo animals survived the atomic war, some apes had their intelligence boosted. Being intelligent they couldn't be kept locked up so they settled in Ape Town, where they began mimicking human behaviour. In a city where crime's rife it was inevitable they'd mimic criminals too. The subtext is apes behave badly because they mimic humans.

About the only possible racist subtext is all gangsters must have a Chicago accent?
