News / NEW 2000AD WALLPAPERS
18 July, 2005, 09:37:28 PM
Borag Thungg, Earthlets!

Tharg the Tardy has finally thrashed Design droid PYE-01's metal prosterior into submission and made the lazy SOB design some 2000AD desktop wallpapers. Feel free to take a look and post up some feedback! (not too many long words please - he is a budget model after all.)
After a lengthy bit of threatening from Mek-Quake he has also decided that he's open to your suggestions for more artwork to be used in the future.

Announcements / PROG 1382 MISSING IN THE MIDLANDS!
26 March, 2004, 09:09:40 PM
BORAG THUNGG, EARTHLETS!

PROG 1382 MISSING IN THE MIDLANDS!

Important news! Those Earthlets who may be having trouble getting hold of Prog 1382, fear not, the Galaxy's Greatest has not succumbed to a vile plot by the Dictators of Zrag and been vanquished to the outer reaches of the universe - instead, due to a courier error, several thousand have gone missing in transit. This is mainly going to affect the Midlands area.

While I attempt to rectify the problem, don't forget that copies can be obtained from my back issues droids - either email backissues@2000adonline.com or visit my Future Shop at www.2000ADonline.com.

I apologise for any inconvenience.

Borag Thungg, Earthlets!

I am delighted to announce that legendary 2000 AD droids John Wagner, Carlos Ezquerra and Arthur Ranson are now confirmed as special guests at Dreddcon 4, which is being held in Oxford on December 6.

Wagner and Ezquerra are two of 2000 AD?s longest-serving creators, and have been responsible, as a team and with other writers and artists, for some of the most legendary moments in 2000 AD?s history. Wagner and Ezquerra have created numerous iconic 2000 AD characters, including leading strips such as Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog.

Arthur Ranson?s detailed realistic art style has graced many 2000 AD stories, and he is particularly well known for his stunning rendition of Judge Anderson in many collaborations with Alan Grant. He is also famed for drawing three series? of Button Man, a creator-owned collaboration with John Wagner that follows the story of Harry Exton, a hard-bitten ex-professional assassin, who keeps being drawn back into that dark world (the first Button Man series will be available in a hardback graphic novel this month).

General / Dredd Demo Challenge Winners
01 October, 2003, 12:47:34 AM
Borag Thungg, Earthlets!

If one of my droids would be prepared to hand me the tungsten-strengthened thrill-retaining envelope containing the name of the winner...

Right, I am proud to announce that with a truly zarjaz score that may even elicit a grimace of satisfaction from Joe Dredd himself, Carnivore is the winner of the Dredd demo challenge.

Good scores were received from all entrants, and here is a rundown of those Squaxx who scored over the amount needed to get a Judge Dredd rating. H-Wagons are now on the way to round up these Earthlets for compulsory Justice Department basic training:

Carnivore: 91400
WoD: 78040
Ross Forster: 67759
Strontium Doug: 60978
Wils: 60884
James Kircough: 60076

Congratulations to all who entered the challenge, and if Carnivore would email the Mk13 droid with his address, a selection of galactic goodies will be sent to him.

General / Friday Dredd Demo Challenge
19 September, 2003, 11:28:55 PM
Borag thunng, Earthlets!

It seems that many of my loyal Squaxx are currently enjoying the demo of Judge Dredd: Dredd Vs. Death that can be found on the front of this month's PC Zone magazine, so I thought I would set you a fun challenge for this weekend.

Play through the Docks level of the game that comes as part of the demo, and send photographic proof of the awesome score you achieve when you finish the level (either a digital pic of the screen, or a grab, but please keep file size small) to my propaganda droid Mk13, at markc@rebellion.co.uk.

The person with the highest score will win a prize from the Nerve Centre's vaults of zarjaz merchandise.

Have fun, and no cheating, unless you would like to receive a Rigelian Hotshot with your breakfast cereal on Monday morning!

Borag Thungg, Earthlets of the message board!

To coincide with the release of Rebellion?s stunning new first-person shooter game for PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube featuring Mega-City One?s hardest lawman and his twisted arch-nemesis, in Judge Dredd: Dredd Vs. Death, 2000 AD will be publishing a terrifying 112-page Dredd Vs. Death special on 10 September.

This special will be the first of 2000 AD?s Extreme Editions, an ongoing quarterly series of newsstand specials, each issue of which will be dedicated to a particular theme or 2000 AD character, and will feature a host of never reprinted and hard-to-find classics from 2000 AD?s history, plus editorial features, character histories and tons of other material.

The thrill-packed Dredd Vs. Death Extreme Edition will be packed with fan favourite stories featuring the pernicious Dark Judges, leading off with the 42-page ?Dead Reckoning?, by Dredd creator John Wagner and artist Greg Staples, a story that has never been reprinted since its first appearance in 2000 AD. Other never reprinted stories in the special include ?Judge Death: The True Story?, by Wagner and veteran 2000 AD artist Ian Gibson, ?Behold the Beast? (which first appeared in the 1983 Judge Dredd Annual) by Wagner and original designer of Dredd, Carlos Ezquerra, and ?Theatre of Death? by Wagner and Ron Smith, which was the first ?version? of how Judge Silver died at the hands of Judge Death.

The Dredd Vs. Death Extreme Edition also contains an in-depth feature on the history of Judge Death and the Dark Judges, plus an exclusive extract from the forthcoming novelisation of the game Judge Dredd: Dredd Vs. Death, written by Gordon Rennie and published by Black Flame. The cover for the Dredd Vs. Death Extreme Edition will be a stunning new wraparound cover image by hot artist Jock.

2000 AD Extreme Editions, Issue 1: Dredd Vs. Death (ISSN 1741-3915) will be on sale from 10 September, priced ?2.99 from all good newsagents and comic shops, and future editions will be published quarterly.

Borag Thungg, Earthlets,

This is just a final missive from the Nerve Centre to tell you about some more Art and Script Droids who have confirmed their presence at Dreddcon 2002, which is being held this Saturday (14 Dec) at the Brewery in London (www.thebrewery.co.uk), and to let you know about some of the events that will be happening over the course of the day.

Some of the following droids were listed in later versions of my previous announcement, but as the Earthlet brain seems to forget details such as these very easily, it can?t hurt to mention them again.

The confirmed list of script droids in attendance now includes Mike Carey (13/Lucifer), Peter Hogan (Strontium Dogs/Durham Red), Robbie Morrison (Nikolai Dante/The Authority) and Gordon Rennie (Necronauts/Storming Heaven), who will be endeavouring not to spill his drink on anyone?s original artwork this time. I can also now confirm that Dredd creator and regular scribe John Wagner has now confirmed that he will be attending Dreddcon.

Meanwhile, the list of attending art droids has expanded most impressively, with new additions including David Bircham (Sinister Dexter/Slaine), Simon Bisley (Slaine/ABC Warriors), Laurence Campbell (Bison/DeMarco P.I.), D?Israeli (Lazarus Churchyard/Scarlet Traces), Simon Fraser (Nikolai Dante), Kev Hopgood (Harlem Heroes/Night Zero), Paul Marshall (Dredd/Firekind/Tyranny Rex), Dom Reardon (Cabbalistics, Inc.) and Lee Townsend (Bison/Past Imperfect/Sinister Dexter).

The full list of attending droids can be found at the bottom of this message.

As mentioned previously, in addition to a dealer room, there will be a talks room and a room for more visual demonstrations. The talks room will host a number of events, including panels of new and established droids and discussions on the history of 2000 AD, its future, and the future of comics in general, plus anime films from Manga during quieter periods. The day will be rounded off with that perennial favourite, Tharg?s Pitch Fest, where anyone attending Dreddcon has the opportunity to spend two minutes pitching an idea for a Future Shock, Terror Tale or Past Imperfect to myself and a panel of 2000 AD editors and other creators. The person who pitches the winning idea will be asked to work it up into a full script, which will be published in a future issue of 2000 AD (please contact one of my events droids at the email addresses below if you require more details on Pitch Fest).

The other room will feature a range of more practical demonstrations, including talks from Big Finish on how they script and act for the 2000 AD audio dramas, and how they go about recording sound effects and creating a believable environment in an audio medium. Art droid Frazer Irving will be giving Dreddcon attendees an insight into the his weird and wonderful artwork through the medium of a slideshow and interpretative dance (I might be misreading the last bit), and Emmy award-winning prosthetic make-up artist Steve Bettles (Sleepy Hollow/Jack & The Beanstalk), will be making someone up as a well-known 2000 AD character. There will be a number of other art-related events going on throughout the day.

Day tickets for the event (?15) and full tickets for the event and the post-Dreddcon party in the evening (?25) will be available on the door from 9am. Children under 12 years of age will be allowed in to the daytime event free of charge, though there is a strict over-18s policy for the post event party.

My event-organising droids can be contacted if you need any further information, on 01865 200 602/606, or by emailing markc@rebellion.co.uk or dominic@rebellion.co.uk.

I hope to see you there.

There will also be a talks room, where legendary raconteur and convention guru Kev Sutherland will be compering a day of talks and panels with a selection of editorial, art and script droids, in addition to a couple of film showings courtesy of our colleagues at Manga during the quieter parts of the day.

Website and Forum / Thrill Sucker Outbreak!
08 November, 2002, 03:49:21 PM
Borag Thungg Earthlets,

Worrying news from the Nerve Centre. I had ordered Cyber-Matt off on an expedition into the darkest depths of the Nerve Centre to retrieve a fine vintage polystyrene cup I had remembered was down there, when he fell through a carelessly unlocked hatchway and discovered a network of dank subterranean tunnels.

Much to my concern, a battered Cyber-Matt returned much later with tales of mazelike tunnels filled with hordes of Thrill Suckers and fiendish traps set by the Dictators of Zrag. After stopping Cyber-Matt?s oil privileges for his tardiness, I deemed decisive action was necessary, so I prepared an armoury of Rigelian Hotshots to hurl down into the depths, to eradicate the Thrill Sucker infestation.

Unfortunately, the power supply for the Nerve Centre monitors has been chewed through by a rogue Thrill Sucker, so it is difficult for me to aim Hotshots well enough to destroy every Thrill Sucker, which is where my loyal Squaxx Dek Thargo come in.

I ask you to guide the Rigelian Hotshots I launch as they plummet into the bowels of the Earth, eliminating as many Thrill Suckers as possible while avoiding the devious weapons the Dictators of Zrag have installed.

The link below will take you to the remote monitor you can use to fight off this invasion.

General / The 2000 AD Science-Fiction Allnighter
15 October, 2002, 06:01:28 PM
Borag Thungg, Earthlets!

Just a short note to inform you about the thrill-packed 2000 AD Science-Fiction Allnighter that will be happening at the Phoenix Picturehouse in Oxford on Saturday October 26th (From 10pm).

It's a well known fact that 2000 AD readers are partial to the odd sci-fi flick, and even the really odd sci-fi flick, so with this in mind, the Galaxy's Greatest Comic has linked up with the Phoenix Cinema in Oxford to offer 2000 AD readers and sci-fi film buffs the chance to spend the entire night from 10pm on Saturday 26 October watching some of the best science fiction ever committed to celluloid. Apart from a host of science fiction classics, the event will also include film introductions from 2000 AD editors and other industry luminaries, free beer and chocolate, a movie quiz plus plenty more.

The event kicks off with the local premiere of Danny Boyle's latest film, the apocalyptic 28 Days Later, which is a chilling depiction of London in the aftermath of a devastating viral outbreak. Clearly influenced by some of the all time classics of dark British science fiction film and television, such as Quatermass, Threads and Doomwatch, 28 Days Later combines suspense with terror in a frighteningly plausible visualisation of a familiar city laid waste.

Received: From this point the pace never lets up, with a selection of films that represent everything that's great about movie science fiction. Blade Runner, depicting one of the most visually stunning future cities seen this side of the pages of Judge Dredd is joined on the bill by the Cursed Earth-like post-apocalypse classic Mad Max 2.

Paranoid sci-fi horror comes doesn't come any better than the original Invasion of the Bodysnatchers, though if there ever was a movie to rival it, then John Carpenter's visceral shocker The Thing would be the one. The replicant Leon says in Blade Runner, "Painful to live in fear, isn't it?", and the casts of two more of the night's movies would be happy to confirm that, as Arnie's elite special forces unit is hunted down by the deadly Predator, and Yul Brynner's merciless android cowboy stalks the visitors to the Westworld theme park.

For sheer originality, incredible visuals and twisted humour, it would be very difficult to find a better film than Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits, in which a young boy joins a band of time-travelling dwarves who have stolen a map of the universe's time holes. The film features a cast of legendary British actors, including David Rappaport, Sean Connery and Ralph Richardson, and is also one of 2000 AD editorial droid Cyber-Matt's favourite films. Matt says,"Terry Gilliam's most coherent and satisfying film alongside 'Brazil', this is outstandingly inventive and brilliantly acted by a cast of fantastic British character actors. David Warner as Evil? Ralph Richardson as the Creator? Ian Holm as Napoleon? John Cleese as Robin Hood? Bring it on! With scenes every kid loves to see in any movie (giants, monsters, tanks coming through walls) and enough knowing wit and darkness to appeal to adults, this is imaginative cinema at its best."

And for those people who like a bit of animated giant robot action, we will be showing Manga films' latest release, Evangelion: Death & Rebirth, one of the most well regarded films in the illustrious history of anime carnage. But that's not all, for the televisions in the bar will be showing episodes of the sci-fi savvy Channel 4 comedy series Spaced, and the 1995 Judge Dredd movie, starring Sylvester Stallone.
