Okay, here we go...

COVER - Compared to the Cabbalistics movie-poster this is very mundane

DREDD - well, for Prison-Guards who should know their folks they act unprofessional. And Edgar offering a price for the man who get?s him? huh? Are this Judges or hired help? No, don?t believe it. I like Burns, but here he isn?t the best choice, sorry.

SIN/DEX - Groan

INTERCEPTOR - still like it.

LOBSTER RANDOM - I am not a Spurrier fan, but this is good.

ROGUE TROOPER -  nice cliffhanger. This can?t be easy to a) come up with new tales which don?t contradict the continuity and which the reader basically knows how they will end and b) to write for a concept which doesn?t make much sense. I mean the war. Nu-Earth is so ravaged from the war that it would be cheaper to blow the planet to bits and start building fortresses o the asteroids than to waste soldiers on the surface *gg Sometimes it is better not to think to hard about a concept, I guess, Lol.

ALIEN INVASIONS - This is fun. I have read novels which have a much weaker invasion concept than told here in 12 panels. Flint is great!

The cover is just great - only missing ad copy, you know, "she was the angel of death, but he would ruffle her feathers".

DREDD: Great lines, great comedy, you laugh until you choke. All the fun stuff nicely contrasted with the wrongness of the Judge system. Loved it.

FAMILY: I guess I have to read it again. It had good parts and it had bad parts. Maybe it reads easier in one sitting.

MIDDENFACE: Lovley artwork, but I didn?t believe this patriarch stuff.

RAT TOWN: No. This wasn?t written very good. seems to me the prose stories are getting weaker every issue.

BLACK SIDDHA: One word: Boring.

SLAINE: This is kind of fun, but Mill?s Kitchen sink approach to writing wears thin after a while.

DARKIE?S MOB: I loved it at the beginning, but now it get?s a bit repetitive. Still interesting stuff if you think of the age.

DEVLIN WAUGH: This is fun. Nice artwork and good dialogue.

The best I guess was the announcment that they repringt Charley?s War. Yeah! I have read so much good about it, can?t wait.

Also re-read Caballistics the other day. It?s great.

I don?t know if it is because of the many, many references, from Hobb?s End to Chapter reading Exit Wounds in the car - and no, I won?t start a discussion reagarding the merit of Hutson?s latest works *g -, but I love stuff like this. The stories were clever despite the often done plotelements, and the art was perfect. The only problem I have is that I think it is unfortuante that two characters are such lookalikes.

And this isn?t like Hellboy apart from a superficial level. Caballistics is a direct sucessor of great british pulp tradition, like the writers doing the Peter Saxon books, Errol Lecale, Guy Smith with his hilarious Sabbat series or Lumley?s Necroscope. But with the important difference, that it is very much self-aware, what is a great part of it?s fun.

I also like the short format.

From the new series of the year, Caballistics it the best.

I meant reality in the context of the story. I mean, if a writer begins a story "ripped from the headlines", keeps such an eye on the military hardware, don?t you think it should follow those parameters to the end? Maybe I am too hard on this, sure the end was fun, but for me it diminished a lot of the impact the story promised.

DREDD: Good start. but as a relative newbie, who is Edgar and what?s her story with Dredd? Her Profile could be herself :-) but that would be a bit too obvious, or?

FUTURE SHOCKS: Sorry, but I think this format is dated. Okay, nice idea and nice art, but the punchline wasn?t that great.

INTERCEPTOR: I like it. maybe this is really a few years too late, sometimes it does feel so, but some good jokes and splendid art with tons of silly bits. I never realized that Pugh can be so subtle.

LOBSTER RANDOM: Spurrier does nothing for me, I found Bec&Cawl boring, some goes for his Future Shocks. But this had some good moments.

SNOW/TIGER: Well, not much friction between the two leads after the first part, they even shared the ciggie afterwards :-) But frankly I don?t buy the whole action sequence for one minute. :-) Climbing abord a manned spacecraft at the start, gunning down the crew in - what is this, 3 or 4 Gs - switching places with the corpse and destruct the craft, no. I don?t buy it. But great art! And the last page was good. Kind of frightening how such a mundane speech, which could have been real on CNN, takes on such such a sinister meaning if you know what drives the guy. I don?t know if I would call the series successful. It began very strong in reality, then went totally into James Bond Sci-Fi-Territory, and ended again in reality. I found this quite jarring, to tell the truth, kind of a wasted opportunity. On the other hand, when will be the last page of part one be avaible as a poster? I would buy it on the spot :-)

"And wasn't Bruce Jones writing horror comics back in the 70's?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course he was :-) He wrote stuff for Eerie, Creepy and Vampirella, then Twisted Tales for Pacific, I think, Somerset Holmes and other stuff. He should be in the Comeback Section *g

Abnett is best writer now? Huh? Or is this rather the category of most prolific writer now? His output is astounding, but surely in a solid, dependable way, not in the I-can?t-wait-to-read-his-next way.

Is 28 Days Later any good? Saw Resident Evil the other day and was very disappointed how lame and boring this was. I dunno, Zombiefilms without explodings heads just don?t cut it :-)

"And did anyone notice (SPOILER) that no one gets shot or actually dies a violent death on screen? Wozzat all about?"

Familyfriendly and non-threatening action entertainment in the 21. century, clean as soap so no one can complain ;-)

DREDD: Liked the ending. Good story, some nice Dredd lines, a nicely done action sequence and great art.

ABC: It still leaves me rather cold. Sorry. :-)

INTERCEPTOR: High concept - is it me, or is the more than a little reminiscend of Men in Black? -, okay art and some funny dialogue. Not earth-shattering, but okay.

SNOW/TIGER: Good action and it was nice to have a reason why they want to carve each other up. The nazi-technican on the next to last page just looked like Dilbert *g. I truly wonder how they will resolve this?next week. Ah, the art of cliffhangers ...

Well, that Cabbalistics are due in Autumn is sad. A summer full of Sin/Dex. Shudder. Not a happy prospect. At best sandwich it between Tales of Telguth and Future Shocks *gg No, really not a happy prospect.
