Nerv Centre: I have to confess that I don?t read this often; I have got a hype allergy. But this one was good. In 90% decrompressed means "writing for the trade" and rip-off. No wonder I am reading 2000 AD and have canceld most U.S. stuff

DREDD: Sigh, couldn?t Carlos draw "Blood Lines"? Then it would have been a classic instead a good story with disappointing and unappropiate art.

Rennie was sure in Wagner-mode in this one.

But one thing astonished me. Abortion is illegal in Mega-City One? Huh? One would think that with their kind of problems the Judges would leave this decision to the woman.

SAVAGE: Adlard is great, and I like even the story. But hated the end. This is a bit too heavy-handed cliche, or?

LEATHERJACK: Like it. I hope Leatherjack and his boss get ripped in shreds. I absolutly detest book-burners of any kind, and to destroy such a planet just to steal a book, tz.

SPACE: lovely artwork, good story. a winner

ROBO-HUNTER: its ... nice. Can?t say I am a fan of the character, but it has its moments :-)

yes, the abortion thing was a surprise. One would think that a city with this kind of problems would have no problem with abortion.

And who pays the storage? The mother? The city?

And shouldn?t there have been a catch like every "abandoned" child should be a ward of the state and material for the Judge-Academy? :-)

Hmm... Judge Vienna :-) I also thought this.

I truly liked the story and am intrigued how it will end, but the art wasn?t suited for it and really undercut the story. This could have been a classic. But is not.

SIN/DEX: nice mayhem.

SHAKARA: normally I am big on story, but I could read whole progs where Shakara is multilating strange alien thingies :-) One of the good things on 2000 AD is the diversity of the artwork, but this series is so  Flints creation that I abolutley loath the thought that some other would draw this strip.

AVATAR: I have to read this whole.

CABS: Rennie, I hate you :-) It is not nice to end with three cliffhangers. Another strip which has become identified with its artist.

His early stuff really made me notice him at the time and I became a huge Ellis fan. Nowadays his books a very hit and miss for me.

HELLSTORM was terrific, compared to other Marvel crap at the time. It was an adult horrorcomic hidden in the other occult superhero-wank - MIDNIGHT SONS anybody? There was a writer who had fun, and as a reader you got the feeling. The Manco art was a plus too.

STORMWATCH was really good, still readable today.

AUTHOTITY wasn?t nearly as good or deep as it was made, but still a nice read with great art. And way better than all the writers who came after him; especially the Millar stuff.

TRANSMETROPOLITAN had its moments of genius, and the art was great.

PLANETARY is still genius, but that could also be attributed to Cassadys awesome art.

MINISTRY OF SPACE was great artwise, had nice touches - but the conclusion wasn?t nearly as shocking as the writer thought.

GLOBAL FREQUENCY - some eps worked, some didn?t. Depended a lot on the artists. On the whole the concept was paperthin, but I guess it would have made a nice tv-series.

HELLBLAZER - this was a highly anticipated book for me, and I was deeply disappointed with Vertigo when they managed to screw it up because of the Highschool story. It had all of Ellis?pet-themes at the time, and the book was good. Even if some of the art was mediocre. Still hate the Higgins art.

But after I felt ripped off on the expensive Avatar stuff - which was boring to downright phoned in - I started to buy only the half of his books, which are seemingly always plagued by lateness and problems. His IRON MAN could have been interesting, but the gaps between the issues killed my interest.

For my taste he started to repeat himself over and over again - I am now officially bored on his standard-character, the chainsmoking nasty cop with issues. And a lot of his minis for Marvel left me very underwhelmed.

So I select on his stuff. Some I buy, some I don?t. The same with Garth Ennis, I guess. But that is another topic. :-)

Lol - the attack of the killer-toys. It truly was a sad ending for a great series.

SUDDEN IMPACT is a terrible movie, the story is by the numbers and a lot of the scenes don?t work. It hadn?t the uncomfortable deadpan seriousness of the the first three. I still like it though. "Make my day" has taken over "Do you feel lucky, punk?"

But I think they should have stopped after the first three.

There is a new mini-series, Declassified III.

But it?s written by Anthony Johnston and not Greg Rucka.

Maybe not a classic in the historical sense, but ...

Hyperion by Dan Simmons.

As I can?t stand comic hype any longer - House of M anybody? shudder - I don?t read Nerve Centre :-)

So at least I wasn?t spoiled. I liked the story so far. But the art really robbed it of impact. Disappointing.

I think the whole Vienna stuff added some interesting stuff for Dredd. He obviously cares, which should make him uncomfortable.

Another point. What I also like is the Sov subplot. Such stuff is generally out of favour, as the real world moved on a lot, but in Dredd?s world it has a history, and I truly enjoy that there wasn?t an editorial mandate to change this. For me it speak volumes of integrety and respect for the worldbuilding.

"(And whatta think Brown's magic ingrediant was to get this to be the big thing it seems to have been). "

I guess it?s either in the water supply or the air.

Otherwise it can?t be explained :-))

Dredd: Wow. I have to say that was quite ... underwhelming. Till this part I thought the art okay, not great, but okay. But for such an important story-develepment this was very disappointing. If you have to discuss whose head was floting through the air, there is something fundamentally wrong with the work.

Now I wonder what Flint, Walker, Kennedy or Ezquerra could have done with such a story. It?s a shame and frankly a wasted opportunity, really.

Sind/Dex: some nice mayhem. still not big on Davis, but at least he knows how to tell a story dramatically artwise.

The Constantine ad. He with this gun straight out of Van Helsing. (which on the movie poster looks like he is using a geriatric crutch). This alone is a nice illustration what is wrong with Hollywood and how they just don?t get the characters.

Shakara: if Flint could fill this in a bottle, he would be a gazillionaire :-) Pure bliss.

Avatar: saving this till it is over. But the art is nice.

Cabs: wow. Talk about not decompressed storytelling. Great jokes. Great art. When will be the damn Trade out??!!

Dredd: Poor Vienna, we knew her only so short a time :-) (She is toast, or?)

Sin/Dex: I know I am in minority here, but there is something about Davis? art in general which doesn?t appeal to me. Ah, well, can?t love them all.

Shakara: Flint on the other hand ... ;-)))

Avatar: I read it when it is complete. I have absolutly forgotten the content of the first episodes and have to re-read them first. But the art sure is great.

Cabs: Broadsword to Danny Boy ... Lol. you gotta love Rennie. Okay, this installment isn?t particulary deep, but it is fun nonetheless. Oh, and anyone else thought that Absolam is a fun take on Warren Ellis? trademark disgruntled cops with an attitude? Nice bloke. I?d rather had a date with Jenny :-))

I bought most of them, haven?t read them all.

The Dante novels are good fun.

Same goes for Durham Red. The books help understanding a lot of stuff I didn?t get in the comic.

Rogue Trooper: Crucible was good.

As far as I read the Dredds, they were uneven. A matter of taste I guess. Final Cut was good.

But I thought most of them more accessible as the Virgin books. Some of them were really hard to get into.

Looking forward for Bishops Fiends of the Eastern Front.

Highlander 2 IS terrible, no doubt.

but lately I watched CURSE OF THE FLY, because it had Brian Donlevy in a role. God, this was bad.

And of course such trash gems like BURIED ALIVE, the one with Donald Pleasance and Ginger Lynn Allen (don?t ask) or DANCE MACABRE with Robert Englund, which didn?t made any sense whatsoever.

Droid Life: still love this.

Dredd: Not the most exciting tale of Dredd, but it had a few good laughs, especially the last caption. Liked the art.

V.C.: Hey, what is M.O.D.O.K doing in the V.C. universe? :-) The art isn?t really suited well to this kind of tale. And Abnett has written stronger stuff.

Slaine: lovely art. But in installments this reads not good. Guess I will re-read it when it is finished. Maybe.

B&C: sorry, but didn?t read it. I can?t stand this series. Spurrier is hit and miss for me, and this is definetly miss.

American gothic: is it me or is the art getting more sketchier as the tale moves on?
