And Frank Miller and Denny O'Neill and Alex Ross and lots of others.

Worth watching, but not long enough.

Spot on, Mat.

However, the deleted scenes in Unbreakable (to stick to one topic with white knuckles) are mostly excellent, and were deleted to benefit the rhythm of the film.

The Trout especially recommends the deleted bit from the fairground, with a young Elijah on what seems to be the US version of the waltzers.

Ouch. Tense stuff.

That was Al Martino, actually.

Silly Karne.

Fear not, young follower, for the surprise parts of the film have not been given away here.

There's very little here you couldn't have learned from the back of the box.

See it anyway. It's very good.

"Why does that kill your credibility?"

I meant it's not really intelligent cinema. The sheer spectacle of Japanese schoolkids killing one another is enough to make it a fantastic film, but sadly it's not what you would call deep and meaningful.

Finally, Santa better bring me the DVD delight that is the Lord of the Rings overblown fanboy edition.

For about five years now, I've enjoyed the chance to do occasional local paper reviews of films, enjoying free passes every time.
I didn't even need to marry a cinema manager to do it! :-)

However, I feel very strongly that the films I've paid to see gave me more of a sense of satisfaction; the reverse of that is where I've seen a sh*t film for nothing, I just can't be that horrible about it.

Anyway, thanks for the opinions, folks. Glad to hear there are other fans of intelligent cinema out there.

Next film I will buy will be Battle Royale on DVD, in a posh tin.

There goes my credibility!

Saw this excellent film for the severalth time last night after finally investing in a DVD copy of it.

I did, however, avoid paying extra for Alex Ross postcards.

Anyway, I'd be keen to hear people's opinions on the film, making sure we use spoiler warnings of course.

For my part, it's one I love very much. Yes, it's not as gripping as The Sixth Sense, but in terms of setting the basic elements of a comic book against a background of near-reality it's damn clever stuff.

And the last line always gives me a shiver.

The million creds were provided by Nero Narcos, as Orlok was told, to his horror, during "Doomsday."

This issue has pissed me off for years.

Why CAN'T Dredd be CJ? Both Hershey and McGruder and, I suspect, many others, made it onto the streets on occasion.

With Dredd as Chief Judge, he could simply walk out of the office for a few hours every day to crack a few heads, delegate all the paperwork to some flunky and spend the rest of the day nuking cities!

It'd be great.

Who's with the evil fish?

Given the way this country is descending into chaos, your evil ruler wants to add to Britain's nightmare.

It's just after 3.20pm and I'm leaving work now.

I command all of you to down tools and leave your places of work immediately!

Go on, take the rest of the afternoon off.

Good points indeed.

Relevancy and context will ensure depictions of extreme situations are not gratuitous.

A further example, in support of what's been said here:

Button Man 3, with the F word.

It was properly used, within context, so much so that, I believe, many people didn't even notice it.

It simply worked.
