General / Peace and quiet to read

Tonight I read my weekly prog. It took about 10 minutes.

Marvellously,  I was only twice interrupted by my wife talking banal shite about subjects that didn't interest me.

Is this a record? Am I the world's luckiest husband?
I love her really. I'm mostly joking.
Dredd: Top stuff! Great writing, especially the line about being weak, and gorgeous, gritty art.

Ulysses Sweet: Sorry, but I've given up now. There's just too much going on. It's too wordy and I lost interest. Love the art.

ABC Warriors: Yeah, OK. It's not for me. It's like a series of trading cards and I prefer a story.

Grey Area: I'm waiting to see where this goes. I like it usually. Early days.

Stront: Bang bang shooty shooty! I can't get enough of Evil Johnny At War. Wagner and Ezquerra every week? A treat.

Life Spugs because I'm sure I have depression and anxiety I feel so bad Mum has told me to book a appointment with the doctors on Monday.

Hang in there. Thrill-powered thoughts to you!

A pencil.

For some reason, I've still got that fucking pencil. The only worse gift the House of Tharg ever lavished upon me was the 12 piece jigsaw that came with the Megazine.

The pencil is my favourite free gift ever. I bought two more on eBay.

I just read the first issue of this series.

I don't feel equipped to write much of a review because I've never read any IDW Dredd, except the Mars Attacks thing, but I think I can offer a few insights.

First, the teddy bear gun is
not a Lawgiver and does make sense as part of the plot.
The Mad Max justice car thing is also explained well. Both points are pretty good fun.

Also - and this is a crucial point for me - IMO Douglas Wolk has a good grasp of Dredd as a character. Certainly, he seems to understand Dredd far better than some of the people who have written for the prog. He's got that stern, obsessive, uptight thing just right.

There's a lot going on in these comics. The level of detail, especially in an eye-melting double-page spread that fills pages two and three of the issue, is impressive. It rivals anything that we've seen in UK Dredd, including some of the classic DPS offerings from the likes of Mick McMahon. But, weirdly, I had difficulty following it, especially in the action sequences. I did a lot of blinking and re-reading to try to keep my eye on the action. The background stuff is almost at Kevin O'Neill levels. I'm going to look at it again tomorrow in natural light. But full marks for value for money!

Overall, I enjoyed this first issue. It's a fairly straightforward story of Dredd as a fish out of water but it works and it entertains. Nothing grates.

I didn't add it to my pull list but I will keep an eye out for it and try to stick with it.

It's been a good day.

I found a 13th C house plot and a Bronze Age cooking place on the same site in the same day, which should ensure further work for a few weeks at least.

My daughter got a place in the same school as her brother for this September, despite us being informed last week that she was 78th on the waiting list (for 28 places).  Thank grud for bastards that put their kid's names down for every school in the area.

Our appeal to be reclassified as 'co-operative borrowers' was finally upheld, thus blocking the Bank's legal action over our mortgage arrears (that leaves only one bank still taking me to court!)

Yeah, I'll call that one a win.

Yaaaaaaaaaaay!

having been given a Mongrol by the amazing Mikey,

First off that's not a euphemism in case anyone was wondering and secondly, and most importantly, that was a collective effort. I just posted it!

M.

Yes, you all rock. Thanks!  :D

I just want to express some support here.

I don't collect action figures but, having been given a Mongrol by the amazing Mikey, I have a new appreciation for 3A. I love the idea of these, especially a Sov Judge. Well done to 3A for taking the risk. I will try very hard to support this new line!

Yes, but if we don't know which story it is then you run the risk of people clicking on it out of curiosity and having the story spoiled anyway. You have to give a little guidance without a spoiler.

It's no big deal.  :)

Spoiler tags only work if people have a hint what they're about.  :)

These are requests related to events that spoil the end of Judge Dredd: Trifecta and the end of Dante.

Cheers

I wonder if we should take that into account when deciding on our filing systems.

We're already warned to be careful about large stores of thrill power.
