Has anyone seen a response from Laura Sneddon yet?

A bit of bluster from The Really Very Serious Alan Moore Scholars' Group facebook:

"Laura Sneddon– Looking into defamation laws as I have all the proof it's lies "

I feared something like that might happen. Unless he can prove it, it's actionable. Oh dear.

But legal action is prohibitively expensive, so it may all blow over.

Yeah, yeah. You inserted a light bulb, didn't you Paddy?

Has anyone seen a response from Laura Sneddon yet?

These comments from Moore just made me really sad. He's entitled to speak his mind, of course, and - the defamatory nature of certain parts aside - I would never criticise him for expressing his opinions, especially given that he was obviously hurt by the rape/race criticisms. But the whole affair is just so unpleasant, and unnecessarily personal.

So a journalist he didn't like called his wife on the phone? Yeah, we do that. Journalists call people up all the time. I talk to people who don't like me on a daily basis. The nature of the job is that sometimes people are upset by what we do. It's always open to anyone to decline an interview, but there was no need for these comments in the aftermath.

I stress that I'm not speaking up for Sneddon here. We've never met, although we spoke online once or twice, and I think I sold her some comics once. Also, the story about what happened with the Independent... Well, I don't know the truth of it in this case but that is indeed the sort of thing that happens a lot. At worst, she made a mistake or the paper went too far. It's no reason to defame a person in the context of her profession. I'm disappointed that Moore would do that.

But the one thing I have a problem in this long screed of comment is the request that Moore fans do not read Morrison stories. This is a creative person who has benefited from free speech and free choice throughout a long, successful and frankly brilliant career. He doesn't get to taint that now by telling people what they should or shouldn't read. I'm a bit upset that he would do that.

Alan Moore was one of the people who taught me something important: go your own way, and don't do what grumpy old men tell you to do.

But, whatever. Moore is only human and everyone says he's a lovely man. He's been subject to tons of unfair criticism and he didn't respond before now. I think we can understand why he's reacted like this.

As I just said on Facebook, I still love the weird old bugger.

Ah, thank you. That's extremely kind of you, CFM.

I've been in The Beguiling before so I suspected they would have it. It's also a short walk from the world's greatest key lime pie, at Wanda's Pie In The Sky. Google that, dessert fans!

Soon...

Oh, nice work, Tombo.

Mabs, you disappoint us. Fix it, man!  :)

I love these books and have the first three. Once I'm a bit better-organised I'll need to seek out a Canadian source of book four.

And, yes, the art is delicious.

I've wet my pants.

Love this tour. I'm also quite pleased to see you devote space to ongoing titles, for easy access, because I've done the same thing for years. It's a practical step and well worthy of you, Colin.

I can't wait for the next part. This thread is better than the prog.  ;)

Not sure I want to repeat here what the print is.

Do I win this thread?

Tell us!
Ok then.

Black T-shirt with red silhouettes of women through the decades with a certain part of anatomy shaded black. Text reads "***** evolution In the Red Light District."

My wife said "What the hell are you supposed to do with that?!"

The only use I can think of is as a rag for cleaning paint brushes.

Hmmm. Thank you for telling us. If I owned that, I would make good use of it by THROWING IT AWAY.

You're welcome.

Oh man if I do say so myself aside from marrying my wife and producing the two children that came with that what I did last night is probably the single greatest thing I've done with my life.

Yes. It is. More please.

My favourite: Prog 1824, Stickleback by D'Israeli

Second place: prog 1848, Slaine by Mick McMahon

In third: 1830, Gunheadz by Boo Cook.

And that's after a lot of agonising. I wish I could have voted for Weston, Bolland and Flint, too.

Now Empire's on and I'd forgotten Michael 'Mr Bronson' Sheard was in it. I believe he has some history with this board.
Whenever I see him I want to go 'ahhhh' because although he always played horrible buggers I can't help but remember him as a lovely bloke.

Aww he was a guest at a Blakes 7 convention I attended. Great bloke... Really got into the spirit of things... Did a mock drill practice with some Federation troopers... And stopped Garth Thomas's ranting lecture on Shakespeare by bursting in wearing a bra outside his suit and yelling "Enough of this. The bar is open!"

His connection to this board is a long story.

But I also met him once and he was such an acting luvvie daaaaarling type that I will never tire of talking about him. Hell of a character.
