Off Topic / Re: Does having a degree matter?.....

Philt-"QUB or UUJ ...only do things (as per their regulations) when the words "legal action" and "here's a writ" are mentioned..."

You know,I've heard this more and more often recently about those two institutions. Not good-but I suppose QUB rolling over and letting the Geology department die should be a big clue to their motivation.

I didn't go to Uni for a variety of reasons, and I'm somewhat glad I didn't.I work with a bloke who has a BSc,MSc and Phd in subjects *relevant* to the job but I'm earning more than him because I've worked longer and got there by a different route i.e. primarily through experience & part time study.

Saying that,if I had had a degree earlier,I think I would be even further on than I am-it can open doors and opportunities, giving a broader range of options for what you can do with your working life I think.

But,like others have said,it's about the learning process surely and commitment over a period of time to,for want of a better word,a project with a definate aim/result.If it's asubject that you find interesting & rewarding in itself IMO it isn't a waste of time.

The 'Fistful of metal' cover may be risible, but I think it's got a pleasing punky ambience-you know, get your mate to draw the cover.

'Hair Metal' covers were always worse IMHO...http://cache.boston.com/bonzai-fba/Original_Photo/2005/07/08/1120851835_2714.jpg">

I ordered this last week and can't wait to get me hands on it.

I rarely buy collected eds of stuff I already have, but Cabs is just so good, and I can pimp the story to the unwashed if it's all in one place.

One of my top toothy thrills EVAH!Tip of the hat to Grennie and Dom...

I'm a smoker too and agree with banning it from enclosed spaces-even I don't like having other peeps smoke blowing round me,just my own aromatic and flavoursome roll ups.Now for a true story...

...a person that works with the missus has been diagnosed with lung cancer. This person *never* smoked and is/was an extemely fit and active outdoorsy type-Himalaya climber.BUT they spent nearly every lunchtime in a pub and spent their social time in a pub-and the doc derscribed his lungs as those of a forty a day smoker.

I do not wish my smoking to do that to someone.

But When A Chief Judge Goes Bad they have brokne MC1 Laws in some way,so Dredd drokks 'em.

In a Dredd film-as with most adaptations from comics/books IMHO-there shouldn't *be* inaccuracies.

But i have no problem with *interpretations* that fit the spirit of the source or are simply impractical for a realisitic film.
