I've read an excerpt from either the Fixer ot Danger Zone Gorazde in MacSweenys-subsequently got Palestine and would agree that it is a grim but excellent comic.

Really must pick up his other books.

Not sure if 2000ad should be moving onto that sort of stuff though.Keep it thrill powered...

I reckon PSU have been a good addition. It feels very real as a unit and it's totally logical to have them.

But one of the benefits of Psi in the strip is you can introduce the paranormal, like the Dark Judges.

I know they seem a bit limp sometimes, but I like the Psi's.Getting hung up on how crap they are get's in the way of the fun IMO.

And,of course, someone's opinion must be likened to ploughing into a bus queue of vegetarian single parents.

I choose this moment to retirn to active message board poster status.

Hello again all!

What makes a good debate? It's generally easier to say what makes a bad one surely? You know-those ones where whoever poses the questions WILL NOT TAKE ANY OTHER OPINION!

And lone dissenting voices being shouted down by the baying crowd of fanboys. But i like those...

Film & TV / Re: Coast
23 August, 2005, 06:44:40 PM
Well, I've been enjoying the series muchly, but haven't watched that episode yet.

The coast of the NE is feckin lush!I've been a couple of times and thought it was fantastic...so i'm interested to see what they say.

I live in Norn Iron and thought it was very favourable. They made the good point that our coast is relatively undeveloped and quite natural, likley because of a lack of tourist interest during the 'troubles'.They also raised the point that we have a chance to learn from previous mistakes as it were,as long as Environmental Legislation is adequately enforced.

I do reckon we've got a "weeker" coast!

Is the question intelligent life?I think that's what we all want isn't it,but the chances of it are a bit slim, considering our own planet ;)

I do think there is or has been other life somewhere about out there.

Good call on the dinos Max!The Theropods were getting smart altogether and it could be argued were approaching upright bipedalism, just like us!(ok,they were bipedal, but you know what I mean)

Most outrageous alien for me was in Voyage of the space Beagle by AE Van Vogt. There's a couple of candidates, like the alien tiger thing but it's the 'Dichord in Scarlet' bugger got me.Big wobbly red beast, sentient natch, can live in a vacuum, decides to biff the crew about. It just annoyed me...

"If every fourth animal in the world is a beetle, perhaps every fourth person is a DUMB FUCK!"

That about sums it up.

If indeed you were stupid, you would likely not consider the stupidity of your being, but rather marvel at how clever people outside your thicky circle of friends are. So,stupid people don't know they're stupid.

Easy.

General / Re: TBFQ: War what is it good for?...
08 April, 2005, 06:01:57 PM
Well,I do have hope for the future.I do think we as a species will wise up at some point-and I believe that point is coming closer.Quixotic?Me?

So what's it good for?No idea.

As Trout said, thinking of the very real consequences of a war,you can only say it's worthless.

It's easy to romanticise and if there's one good thing, it could be the inspiration some find in 'heroes'.Some amazing things have been done by ordinary people that show compassion, empathy and determination. I remember hearing a story about an officer who was decorated during the D-Day landings for taking out, singlehandedly,a bunker. He had told his squad to hold thier position while he basically charged this bloody thing. When asked why he took such a risk,he said it was because he couldn't bear the thought of sending the young men in his charge to die and if he had died, they could have found reason to fall back to await further instruction.

But as for reasons for war? We're definately an agressive bunch that haven't been walking upright long enough to work out the consequences of our actions.
