"It is importnat to remember that scientists do not live in vacuums. "

Got that right.I think I haven't really portrayed meself too good in this but I know for my part I'm as apolitical in my work as possible.Politics can effect funding but it's all knowledge and yes,it has responsibility attached for everyone.

Maybe I'm too idealistic.

Anyway,I like Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds as well who in the past have been accused of the same sort of things as Eminem.Although, the lyrics were a bit more literary IMHO.

I just don't get the impression it's meant with any malice. It is who's listening to it makes the difference, but what are ye gonna do?

Like I've said,Eminem amuses me in the main part.I like the irreverence and the thought of people choking on their tea when they hear him.

I agree Usher.

There was no intention of determinism in what I said.

I think the teen pregnency example you use isn't really what I'm getting at-surely that is statistics which will be interpereted depending on social context?

I think you're talking about motivation for the actual scientific research.I was trying to point to the fact that,IMHO,any research scientist worth spitting on would not,or rather, should not have that in mind. But who funds research is the argument against that one,eh?(that's not meant to sound like I'm throwing it in your face, just arguing with meself)

I don't believe it's important or even necessary to hunt for a 'gay gene',but say for the sake of argument it was found.Do you think the majority of people would give a monkey's?Some fundamentalists would start with the screening, but their kids'll be brainwashed anyway.

By my own admission,I'm a bit of a technocrat.

Well Max,nothing so logical.

One of the one's I read about said gay men were born in times of intellectual/creative stagnance and their naturally more creative ways helped forge new ideas.Including hygiene.
Really.
No scientific basis whatsoever.

'but it's only knowledge, and knowledge is neutral'

Well, I don't disagree with scientific research. Good science will see knowledge/data as neutral. If research does determine a predisposition toward homosexuality through genetics,to me it's just another facet of human biology.Same as hair colour etc...I personally don't care if it's choice or not.Living in a society where people can choose is the way to go.

IMHO,good scientific information will distance stigma by removing it from the moral majority.

(There's some crazy arguments for gay people's 'reason' through human evolution on both sides-do a net search I dare ye!)

And as for Eminem-most of the time he just makes me laugh ,in the same way as South Park or Max Cannon do.
