Heh, one of the worst things about buying 'classic' original art these days is seeing the retro pricing scribbled on the back... I've got McMahon Dredd, Ewins Bad Co., etc. and the original vs. contemporary prices make you grind your teeth.  As classic 2000AD artists go, Belardinelli has probably risen least - undervalued and certainly underappreciated compared to many others.

Meanwhile, with a bit of luck I should be getting that Gibbons Rogue concept art this week (and the text for the original series pitch); a nice slice of history there...

:)

I seen a Dillon Dredd page in a comic shop in the early 90s. It was £25. That was like 4 weeks cider and snouts them days, so there was no way I could get it!

Also: good work on the Rogue concept stuff Ming.

You're right - could it be Hershey? She did seem to be ill a while ago...

You know, I haven't ever cried at reading prose (though one came close) so I think it shows how, for me anyway, comics are much more personalised. I have felt a bit wobbly lipped at some films and there's plenty of music reduces me to a sniffling wreck when I'm in a certain frame of mind, or sometimes even when I'm not.

So comics are more like music and films.

Dredd - excellent. I knew there'd be secessionists, and I also felt a bit sorry for them. Great tense script tied to great art, handshakes all round.

Ichabod - I'm not as bowled over by this second outing for some reason. I think I'll need to re read it on it's own when the run's over to give it space. Not that I'm not enjoying it, but the pace has changed and my head hasn't or something.

Red Seas - Yes, it's replaced Dante as the strip I just don't really enjoy too much.

Aquila - My prog highlight. I've been looking forward to this since the 'trailer' in Prog 2012 and this opener didn't disappoint. It put me in mind of Slaine when it was fully engaging me; smart, gory, fun and pitch perfect. Brilliant stuff!

Lenny Zero - Takes the second place berth this week. Brilliant opener and Willsher's always a pleasure to see. And yes,
Shuggy Bear
made me chuckle!

Back on form with this prog Tharg.

Superb pages Dale - the colour ones are really great to see in detail, but that last page is Armoured Gideon!

I'd love to see ThreeA do an Armoured Gideon!

Yuh huh, +1. Looks like he'd be around 40" tall in 1/6.

I'll try and get Cam and Tony to do a follow-up soon (and suggest something similar to Brendan McCarthy).

Go on then!

Got it in the post today and it is lush. Really high quality repro, you'd swear you'd smudge the illos if you weren't careful. A bonus was the inclusion of an insert of the bounty hunter sketch above on nice thick paper.

Top stuff-more of this sort of thing!

the gadgets aren't a reason for preferring Dredd - Dredd's various bits of technology work well for him, but if gadgetry really gave me the horn, I suppose Batman would win.  Likewise, the Lawmaster doesn't constitute a reason for preferring Dredd.

But a gun that fires six types of ammunition means you can depict the demise of perps in various, some would say entertaining, ways. Plus the article includes the BOOT KNIFE!, and the Lawmasters are some of the best underused characters.

Ok, maybe not the bit about the Lawmasters.

I'd take more alright!

For the record, I think Cam is possibly my favourite ever Dredd artist. Loved that solidity and consistency he gave to every panel as others have mentioned.

There should be a Cam Dredd collection - make it so Tharg.

Here's the picture of my son with Karl Urban. A big thank you to Mr Urban for going out of his why to make Joe's day.

That young fella's got the scowl down pat - if I was Urban, I'd watch out come the sequel! Great pic Minty...
