Bah... I probably won't be there, which is a shame as I wanted to have a word in Byron's shell-like.

I said I'd probably be up for it already! You can't expect more commitment then that, surely?!

I'll probably be about.

Curious the way you say you'll be in central London on that day, like you'll be travelling a long distence.

You say you'll be in Central London for a drink? Who with? Why the need to get people you met from the internet there to back you up? Normally, you should be having friends with you when you go to meet internet people, rather then getting the 'net folks in as protection!

Curiouser and.

The trick might be to have a pint while queing, if that sort of behavior is tolerated.

I've found that there's plenty of beer and time there to get drunker then I should in public and get loads of sketches, as long as you miss all the talks you want to attend.

Well, something's got to give, and it's not going to be the beer, and you get to take sketches home with you. You can read about the talks from here or 2000ADreview a couple of days later.

will thee be a dredd con this year

I expect so. They're usually in the autumn, and they're usually not announced until the end of summer.

or ever again for that fact?

Why the doubt?

I got the Creative Zen 40GB yesterday - 190 from Amazon.

When you start considering 5GB machines go for ?80/90 it becomes pretty mad to consider them as good value.

But it does depend on how much you can afford & how close your girlfriend is - are you practically married, or have you only known her for a week? Do you see yourself still with her by the time MP3 technology is obsolete? (probably only a couple of years off!)

Thing is, however vicious I might be this time round - I liked his work on Doomsday, and had no problems with the Christmas Oola & Homer Blint episode either - my review of it in the Prog 2005 review was "Dredd was fan-dabby-doozy."

But I'm really not liking it in this story!

I think we should club together & raise a fund to pay for Carlos Ezquerra to redraw Blood Trails.

I'm extrapolating here... but as Carlos has famously said regarding Johnny Alpha's death 'If I didn't draw it, it didn't happen'

The number of empty properties has also soared, topping 100,000.

Grr! That's just dumb.
Council should be able to reclaim empty properties.

Rent money is money down the drain, that's what. - from a personal point of view, yes - but it is/was an extra revenue for the council, without which council tax will be higher...

On yet another hand... selling council houses or not, people are still living in them.
There's not a set number of people who need council homes, which have been sold off to create a deficit. The number of people who need homes went down by the same number of houses that were sold. They'd still need more council homes today even if they hadn't sold off loads. It's not as if they're empty, is it? (or is it - please tell me they're not empty!)

Anyway, it's exactly this sort of thing which reminds me why I don't have a plan for Total World Domination - I don't want to have to be the one to deal with all the problems!

But say you don't smoke or drive: if one basic tax was raised to cover the loss of road/fuel/tobacco tax you'd be getting royally screwed

Tis a tricky problem, no doubt!

But - unless all funds raised from tobacco taxes go directly to cancer research - it's not really fair to put extra tax on smokers. (I'm not a smoker, btw, so I don't really care if they're taking tax burden away from me - but it's not exactly 'fair')
Okay, smokers create more litter - cig butts on the streets etc-  but there's not extra tax on bubblegum to pay for the sweepers, so why smokers?

Road tax - okay, you might not have a car - but you still want the rubbish trucks to be able to drive down your road, you still want police cars & ambulances to be able to move around. You still want mail delivered & shops to have stock - even those not driving themselves rely on the roads being maintained.
Especially cyclists! Cars go over potholes with not much trouble, you hit one of them why cycling & you could be in serious trouble. But there's not a tax on cycles and no fuel tax (obviously).
I'm not saying that there should be, I'm just Devil's Advocating...

Okay, revised plan - Increase PAYE/NIC rates, implement VAT at a fixed rate for *all* services/goods - so fuel & tobacco have the same tax rate as tables or hammers or tv sets.
